Kyrgyz President visited India
Kyrgyzstan President Almazbek Sharshenovich Atambayev came for four-day state visit to India from December 18. This was Atambayev’s first visit to India in his capacity as President. The visit comes right after a very successful visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Kyrgyzstan in July 2015.
Kyrgyzstan supports India's bid for membership of the UN Security Council and welcomed its entry into the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
Kyrgyzstan formerly known as Kirghizia, is a Central Asia. landlocked and mountainous country bordered by Kazakhstan to the north, Uzbekistan to the west, Tajikistan to the south and China to the east. Its capital and largest city is Bishkek.
Kyrgyzstan is a member of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Eurasian Economic Union, the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the Turkic Council, the TÜRKSOY community and the United Nations. The Kyrgyzstani Som is the currency of Kyrgyzstan.
