National News

Record 15,000 Rooftop Solar Panels Installed in a Single Day

  • According to Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi, a record 15,000 rooftop solar panels were installed across the country on 29 May 2026.
  • This is the highest number of rooftop solar installations completed in a single day under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.

PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGMBY) :

  • Objective: To provide free electricity to households through rooftop solar installations
  • Budget Outlay: ₹75,021 crore

ABHA Cards Reach 90 Crore Under ABDM

  • Under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), implemented by the National Health Authority (NHA), more than 90 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) cards have been created across the country.

  • The number of ABHA accounts has increased from over 14 crore in 2021 to 90 crore in 2026.
  • This achievement was made possible through active participation of States and Union Territories.
  • Top State: Uttar Pradesh with over 15.3 crore ABHA accounts.

Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) :

Note: ABHA Card is a digital health identity and record repository, whereas the Ayushman Card under PM-JAY provides health insurance coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per family.

Launch of AI-Enabled Voice Chatbot ‘Samadhan Didi’

  • Union Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Dr. Jitendra Singh launched the AI-enabled voice chatbot ‘Samadhan Didi’ in New Delhi.

Myanmar President on a Visit to India

Admiral Krishna Swaminathan

General N. S. Raja Subramani

  • Lieutenant General N. S. Raja Subramani has assumed charge as the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).

  • Birth: She was born on May 31, 1725, in the village of Chaundi in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra. Her father, Mankoji Rao Shinde, was the village Patil (headman).
  • Marriage: In the year 1733, she was married to Khanderao Holkar, the son of Malhar Rao Holkar—the founder of the Holkar dynasty and the Maratha Subedar of Malwa.
  • Tragedy and Crisis: In the year 1754, her husband, Khanderao, attained martyrdom in the Battle of Kumher. Malhar Rao Holkar prevented Ahilyabai from committing Sati and trained her in military and administrative affairs.

Shrey Parikh

  • Shrey Parikh, a 14-year-old Indian-American student from California, won the national title of the 2026 Scripps National Spelling Bee by defeating Ishan Gupta.

National Family Health Survey (NFHS-6) 2023-24

  • According to the 2023-24 data from the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-6), released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, institutional deliveries have increased from 88.6% to 90.6%.

Strong Evidence of Sub-surface Water-Ice Beneath the Moon's South Polar Region

  • Scientists at the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) in Ahmedabad have discovered strong evidence of sub-surface water-ice beneath the Moon's south polar region, utilizing data from the Chandrayaan-2's DFSAR (Dual Frequency Synthetic Aperture Radar) payload.
