Glitch-free re-evaluation process

  • Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has given directions to depute a team of professors and technical experts from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras and IIT, Kanpur to assist the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in ensuring a glitch-free re-evaluation process.

Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana

India dispatched medical aid to Africa amid Ebola emergency

  • India dispatched its first tranche of urgent medical supplies and protective kits to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) to assist in containing a severe, emerging Ebola public health emergency.
  • The crisis involves the rare Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus, which currently has no approved specific vaccines or treatments.
  • The outbreak is rapidly spreading across parts of Central and East Africa, primarily impacting the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) which has reported hundreds of suspected cases and over 200 deaths and neighbouring Uganda.
  • The Government of also advised all Indian citizens to avoid non-essential travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan until further notice, in view of the evolving Ebola Outbreak situation.

Ebola Virus Disease (EVD)

  • Type: A highly lethal zoonotic hemorrhagic fever
  • Cause: Orthoebolavirus genus of the Filoviridae family
  • Pathogen Type: RNA virus. It was first identified in 1976 near the Ebola River in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)
  • Natural Host: Fruit bats of the Pteropodidae family act as natural reservoirs.
  • Treatment: No absolute cure, but early supportive care (intravenous fluids, electrolyte balance) improves survival. Monoclonal antibody treatments (e.g., Inmazeb, Ebanga) exist for the Zaire strain.

Janjati Sanskritik Samagam

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed the Janjati Sanskritik Samagam at the Red Fort grounds in New Delhi which was organised by the Janjati Suraksha Manch to mark the 150th birth anniversary year of tribal freedom fighter Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
  • He paid deep tributes to the Ulgulan (rebellion) movement led by Bhagwan Birsa Munda. Shah noted how the historical campaign rightfully reinforced that tribal communities have true, unencroachable ownership of their ancestral forests, water, and lands.

Constitutional

  • Definition: The term "Scheduled Tribes" (STs) is defined under Article 366(25) of the Constitution.
  • Designation: According to Article 342, the President of India, after consultation with the Governor, specifies the tribes/tribal communities as STs for a particular State/Union Territory.
  • National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST): Established under Article 338A (via the 89th Constitutional Amendment Act, 2003), it is a constitutional body mandated to oversee the safeguards provided to STs.
  • Fifth Schedule: Deals with the administration and control of Scheduled Areas in states other than Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Mizoram. Requires a Tribes Advisory Council.
  • Sixth Schedule: Deals with the administration of tribal areas in the states of Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Mizoram. These are administered via Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) and Autonomous Regional Councils.

SIDBI initiatives on 37th Foundation Day in Mumbai

  • Multiple initiatives were launched by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Mumbai on the occasion of 37th Foundation Day celebration of SIDBI (Small Industries Development Bank of India).

  • SIDBI MachFin Mart: A digital marketplace for machinery, aimed at helping MSMEs with price discovery and technology adoption.
  • RRB Co-Lending Portal: A platform to facilitate partnerships between SIDBI and Regional Rural Banks, enhancing credit flow to rural, underserved areas.
  • MoRE (Modernisation of Rural Enterprises): A program designed to support 10,000 rural micro-units with development aid over the next three years.

  • The birth anniversary of the great revolutionary Rash Behari Bose was observed in India.

  • Association with Secret Societies: closely associated with the Jugantar group of revolutionaries and worked under the mentorship of Jatindranath Mukherjee (Bagha Jatin).
  • Revolutionary Activities: Alipore Bomb Case (1908), bomb plot to assassinate Viceroy Charles Hardinge in 1912
  • Founded: Indian Independence League (1942) in Japan, Azad Hind Fauj (1942)
  • Bangkok Conference (June 1942): At this second conference, Rash Behari Bose was elected the President of the League.

Enshrinement of the 'Kudung' of the Fourth Dodrupchen Rinpoche

  • Thousands of devotees, Buddhist monks, and top state leaders gathered in Gangtok, Sikkim, to witness the historic final journey and enshrinement of the 'Kudung' (holy relic body) of the Fourth Dodrupchen Rinpoche, Kyabgon Dodrupchen Jigme Thupten Trinley Palzangpo.
  • The highly revered Nyingma lineage master entered Mahaparinirvana in January 2022, after which his Kudung was preserved for darshan at the Lukshyama meditation retreat centre.
  • Following the specific counsel of eminent Buddhist Lamas, the holy body was ceremonially placed inside a newly built Golden Reliquary Stupa. This stupa serves as an eternal monument to the Rinpoche's compassion and wisdom.

24-Hour Asia and Oceania Championships

  • India created history at the International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) 24-Hour Asia and Oceania Championships held in Hirosaki City, Japan, by winning five medals and dominating the men’s category, with Amar Singh Devanda securing gold, Geeno Antony claiming silver, and another Indian athlete winning bronze.
