Foundation of Google’s AI Data Centre

  • N. Chandrababu Naidu and Ashwini Vaishnaw laid the foundation stone of Google’s first AI data centre in India and the largest in Asia at Visakhapatnam.

  • Total Investment: Google will invest around USD 15 billion (approx. ₹1.35 lakh crore), making it one of the largest Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) in India.
  • Capacity: The centre will have a capacity of 1 gigawatt (1 GW), making it the largest AI hub cluster in Asia.
  • Location: The project will span over 600 acres across Tarluvada, Adavivaram, and Rambilli areas of Visakhapatnam.
  • Employment: It is expected to generate around 1.88 lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities.
  • Partners: Google is developing the project in collaboration with AdaniConneX and Airtel Nxtra.

Launch of Projects Worth Approximately ₹6,350 Crore in Varanasi

  • During a two-day visit to Uttar Pradesh on April 28, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for over 160 development projects worth approximately ₹6,350 crore.

Key Projects:

  • Flagged off two new 'Amrit Bharat Express' trains connecting Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra.
  • Laid the foundation stone for the third and fourth railway line project between Varanasi and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Junction.
  • These projects include the construction of a rail-cum-road bridge over the River Ganga.
  • In the second phase of his visit, the Prime Minister will travel to Hardoi to inaugurate the Ganga Expressway.
  • This is a 594-kilometer-long, 6-lane, access-controlled greenfield high-speed corridor constructed at a cost of over ₹36,000 crore.

Approval for Creation of Five New Districts in Ladakh

  • Vinai Kumar Saxena has approved the formation of five new districts in the Union Territory of Ladakh, increasing the total number of districts from 2 (Leh and Kargil) to 7.

Free Trade Agreement between India and New Zealand

  • India and New Zealand signed a Free Trade Agreement in New Delhi on April 27, 2026.

  • Presiding over the Signing Ceremony: Led by the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, and New Zealand's Minister for Trade and Investment, Todd McClay.
  • Expedited Negotiations: This marks India's fastest-concluded FTA to date, with negotiations completed in a mere 9 months (from March 2025 to December 2025).
  • For India: 100% of Indian export products (comprising 8,284 items) will gain duty-free access to the New Zealand market.
  • For New Zealand: India will reduce or eliminate tariffs on 95% of New Zealand's export products.
  • Investment Commitment: New Zealand has pledged a long-term commitment to invest $20 billion in India over the next 15 years.
  • Movement and Visas: An annual visa quota of 5,000 has been established for Indian professionals, aimed at facilitating the movement of skills and talent.
  • Sectoral Safeguards: India has excluded its sensitive sectors—such as dairy, rice, wheat, and sugar—from this agreement to safeguard the interests of local farmers.

  • The International Labour Organization (ILO) observes the World Day for Safety and Health at Work annually on April 28th, with the aim of promoting safe, healthy, and decent working conditions in workplaces.

Formation of the 16th ‘Bhairav’ Battalion
