Bihar's 24th Chief Minister

  • Samrat Choudhary has taken the oath as the 24th Chief Minister of Bihar.

Approval Granted for Construction of Flood Protection Wall

BCG Vaccines for Afghanistan

  • India has dispatched 13 tons of BCG vaccines and other medical aid to Afghanistan to bolster the child immunization program against tuberculosis in the country.
  • The BCG (Bacillus Calmette-Guérin) vaccine is primarily administered for the prevention of tuberculosis (TB), and is typically given to newborns immediately after birth.
  • This vaccine provides lifelong protection against severe forms of TB (such as TB meningitis).

US to Launch Tariff Refund System

  • The US administration plans to launch a tariff refund system starting on the 20th of this month.
  • Under this system, approximately US$ 166 billion will be refunded to US importers.
  • The tariffs in question were struck down by the US Supreme Court in February.

India's Wholesale Price Index in March 2026

 

  • The Wholesale Price Index (WPI)-based inflation rate in India rose to 3.88% in March 2026, up from 2.13% in February.

  • Driven by rising prices of food items and cooking fuel: Fuel & Power: Inflation in this sector stood at 1.05%, marking a significant recovery from the contraction (-3.78%) recorded in the previous month. A massive monthly increase of 36.16% was recorded in the prices of crude oil and natural gas.
  • Manufactured Products: Inflation in this category rose to 3.39% from 2.92% in February, primarily driven by the rising costs of textiles, chemicals, and basic metals.
  • Primary Articles: Inflation in this group nearly doubled to 6.36% (from 3.27% in February), signaling firming prices of raw materials.
  • Food Inflation: The WPI Food Index remained stable at 1.85%.

Wholesale Price Index (WPI):

  • It measures the average change in the prices of commodities at the wholesale level in India.
  • It is a key inflation indicator that tracks supply-side prices across the manufacturing, trade, and construction sectors. Publication: It is released on a monthly basis by the Office of the Economic Adviser (OEA), which is part of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Inauguration of Sri Guru Bhairavaikya Temple in Karnataka
