8th 'Poshan Pakhwada'

Approval Granted for Phase II of the Jaipur Metro Project

  • The Union Cabinet has approved Phase II of the Jaipur Metro project.

Key Details:

  • Corridor Details: This phase will consist of a 41-kilometer-long North-South corridor, connecting Prahladpura to Todi Mod.
  • Stations: The route will feature a total of 36 stations, of which 34 will be elevated and 2 will be underground.
  • Cost and Implementation: The total estimated cost of the project is ₹13,037.66 crore. It will be implemented by the Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation Limited (RMRCL).
  • Connectivity: This corridor will connect key areas such as the Sitapura Industrial Area, Jaipur Airport, Tonk Road, SMS Hospital, and Vidyadhar Nagar.
  • Target: The project is expected to be completed by September 2031.
  • Partnership: This is a joint venture between the Central Government and the Government of Rajasthan, with a 50:50 equity share, to be implemented by the Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation Limited (RMRCL).

Approval of NBS for P&K Fertilizers for the Kharif Season 2026

  • The Central Government, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) of ₹41,533.81 crore for the Kharif 2026 season (April 1 to September 30, 2026).
  • The primary objective of this decision is to ensure the availability of fertilizers to Indian farmers at affordable rates, despite fluctuations in international fertilizer prices.

Key Facts:

  • This allocation is approximately ₹4,317 crore higher than the budgetary requirement for the Kharif 2025 season.
  • The budget for Kharif 2025 stood at ₹37,216.15 crore.
  • The government is making 28 categories of Phosphate and Potash fertilizers—including DAP—available to farmers at subsidized rates through fertilizer manufacturers and importers.
  • The subsidy on Phosphate and Potash fertilizers has been covered under the Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) scheme since April 1, 2010.

Kalai-II Hydroelectric Project

  • The Union Cabinet has approved the investment proposal for the construction of the 1200 MW Kalai-II Hydroelectric Project in the Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh.
  • This project is set to be completed within 78 months at a cost exceeding ₹14,105 crore.

Key Facts:

  • River and Location: This project is situated on the Lohit River, a major tributary of the Brahmaputra. It is the first major hydroelectric project in the Lohit basin.
  • Cost and Capacity: The Cabinet has approved an investment of ₹14,105.83 crore for this project. Its total installed capacity will be 1200 MW (6 x 190 MW and 1 x 60 MW).
  • Implementing Agency: It will be implemented through a Joint Venture between THDC India Limited and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
  • Financial Assistance: The Central Government will provide budgetary support of ₹599.88 crore for the construction of infrastructure (roads and bridges) and central financial assistance of ₹750 crore towards the State's equity contribution.
  • Nature of the Project: It is a 'Run-of-the-river with pondage' scheme, which will assist in managing peak electricity demand.
  • Benefits: The State will receive 12% free power, and an additional 1% will be allocated to the Local Area Development Fund (LADF). Approximately 29 kilometers of roads and bridges will be constructed across the Anjaw and Namsai districts. The project is expected to generate approximately 4,853 million units of clean energy annually.
  • Timeline: The project is estimated to be completed within 78 months (approximately 6.5 years).

Kamla Hydroelectric Project

  • The Union Cabinet has approved an investment of ₹26,069.50 crore for the 1,720 MW Kamla Hydroelectric Project in the Kamle, Kra Daadi, and Kurung Kumey districts of Arunachal Pradesh.

Key Facts:

  • Location and River: This project will be constructed on the Kamala River—a major tributary of the Subansiri River—across the Kamle, Kra Daadi, and Kurung Kumey districts of Arunachal Pradesh. It was previously known as the 'Subansiri Middle Hydroelectric Project'.
  • Implementation: It will be implemented through a Joint Venture between NHPC Limited and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
  • Capacity and Generation: The total installed capacity of the project is 1,720 MW (8 x 210 MW and 1 x 40 MW), which is expected to generate approximately 6,870 Million Units (MU) of clean energy annually.
  • Timeline: The estimated construction period for the project is 96 months (8 years).
  • Financial Assistance: The Central Government will provide budgetary support of ₹4,743.98 crore for flood control measures and ₹1,340 crore for infrastructure development (roads, bridges, etc.).

  • Energy Security: This project will assist in national grid balancing and peak demand management.
  • Flood Control: It will also help mitigate the impact of floods in the Brahmaputra Valley.

  • Infrastructure: Under the project, approximately 196 kilometers of roads and bridges will be developed, which will be primarily available for local use.

HPCL Rajasthan Refinery Limited

  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved significant cost revisions and additional equity investment for the HPCL Rajasthan Refinery Limited (HRRL) project.

Key Facts:

  • Cost Revision: The total estimated cost of the project has been increased from ₹43,129 crore to ₹79,459 crore.
  • Additional Equity: An additional equity investment of ₹8,962 crore by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has been approved.
  • Total Investment: Following this increase, HPCL's total equity investment in the project will rise to ₹19,600 crore.

HRRL Project:

  • Location: This refinery is situated in the Balotra district (Pachpadra) of Rajasthan.
  • Joint Venture (JV): It is a joint venture between HPCL (74%) and the Government of Rajasthan (26%).
  • Capacity: It is a greenfield refinery-cum-petrochemical complex with a capacity of 9 MMTPA (Million Metric Tonnes Per Annum).
  • Date of Operations: The refinery is targeted to commence commercial operations on July 1, 2026.

"Majha Gaon, Arogyasampanna Gaon" (My Village, A Healthy Village) Campaign

  • On April 7, 2026—marking the occasion of World Health Day—the Government of Maharashtra launched the "Majha Gaon, Arogyasampanna Gaon" campaign with the aim of strengthening rural health services.

World Bank Forecasts India's Growth Rate

'bob SAMVAD'

  • Bank of Baroda has launched an advanced AI-based multilingual platform named 'bob SAMVAD' to make banking services in its branches more inclusive and accessible.

28th ASEAN-India Senior Officials' Meeting
