Launch of Key Initiatives Under 'Sadhana Saptah'

  • Jitendra Singh, the Minister of State for Science and Technology, launched several initiatives under 'Sadhana Saptah' (Sadhana Week) in New Delhi.
  • These include the framework for the national-level implementation of the 'UNNATI' portal and the 'Karmayogi Kartavya' program.

  • 'Karmayogi Sadhana Saptah' was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 2, 2026, in New Delhi.
  • This program is being organized under 'Mission Karmayogi,' which aims to enhance the capacity building and skill development of government employees, and to strengthen citizen-centric administration.
  • Objective: To transition civil servants from a 'rule-based' work culture to a 'role-based' work culture.
  • Duration: April 2 to April 8, 2026 (a week-long program).

'Namo Drone Didi Scheme'

  • Karnataka has emerged as India's leading state in training women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) as drone pilots under the 'Namo Drone Didi Scheme' (NDDY).
  • So far, more than 145 SHG members in the state have received specialized training in drone piloting—the highest figure in the country.
  • This is followed by Uttar Pradesh (128) and Andhra Pradesh (108).

‘National Maritime Day’

  • ‘National Maritime Day’ is observed annually on April 5th to commemorate the maiden voyage of the SS Loyalty—the first Indian-owned ship of the ‘Scindia Steam Navigation Company’—from Mumbai to London in the year 1919.

47th Raising Day of Project Chetak

  • Project Chetak of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) celebrated its 47th Raising Day in Bikaner, Rajasthan.

Project Chetak:

  • It is a flagship project of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the construction and maintenance of strategic roads in the border areas of Rajasthan, Punjab, and Gujarat.
  • Established in 1980, the project manages a road network spanning over 4,000 kilometers and 214 kilometers of Ditch-cum-Bund (DCB).

'INS Aridaman' Inducted into the Indian Navy

  • India has inducted its third nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine, 'INS Aridaman', into the Indian Navy at Visakhapatnam.

Key Facts:

  • INS Aridaman is the third submarine in this class, following INS Arihant (2016) and INS Arighat (2024).
  • It weighs approximately 7,000 tons, which is heavier than its predecessors (6,000 tons). It features 8 vertical launch tubes—double the number found on the earlier vessels.
  • It is capable of carrying K-4 missiles with a range of 3,500 km or K-15 missiles with a range of 750 km.
  • With the possession of three SSBNs, India has now achieved the capability for "Continuous At-Sea Deterrence" (CASD), ensuring that at least one nuclear submarine remains on patrol at all times.

Arihant Class (SSBN):

  • INS Arihant (S2): India's first indigenously built nuclear submarine (commissioned in 2016).
  • INS Arighat (S3): The second submarine, commissioned in August 2024.
  • INS Aridaman (S4): The third—and more powerful—submarine, recently commissioned.

INS Taragiri Inducted into the Navy

  • Defense Minister Rajnath Singh commissioned the Indian Navy's advanced stealth frigate, INS Taragiri (Project 17A), into the naval fleet in Visakhapatnam.

  • This is the fourth stealth frigate built under the 'Nilgiri' Class (Project 17A).
  • It has been constructed by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) and incorporates over 75% indigenous content.
  • This warship is equipped with supersonic missiles such as BrahMos, surface-to-air missiles, and modern anti-submarine weaponry.
  • Weighing approximately 6,670 tons, the ship features advanced stealth technology that enables it to evade detection by enemy radar.

  • This warship serves as a modern avatar of the original INS Taragiri (a Leander-class frigate), which was commissioned in 1980 and served the Navy for several decades.

  • 'Prarambh 2026' Campaign: The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has launched this new website and AI assistant at a time when income tax regulations have been simplified. Under these regulations, the number of tax rules has been reduced from 510 to 333, and the number of forms has been reduced from 399 to 190.
