Launch of the 'Bhu Bharathi' Portal

  • With the objective of making land record management transparent and accessible, the Government of Telangana has launched the 'Bhu Bharathi' portal on a pilot basis across five mandals.

Key Details:

  • Launch Locations: Kusmanchi in Khammam district, Aswaraopeta in Bhadradri district, Vatpally in Sangareddy district, and Kosgi in Narayanpet district.
  • After 45 days, the portal will be rolled out to one mandal in every district.

  • Digital Land Parcel Map (LPM): Utilizes modern survey technology to generate accurate land maps; land owners will be assigned a unique Land Holding Number.
  • Online Services: Services such as land registration, mutation, and the conversion of agricultural land to non-agricultural use will now be available online.
  • Transparency: Aims to minimize land disputes and eliminate intermediaries through real-time data updates.
  • SMS Alerts: Provides SMS alert notifications at every stage of the process, from application submission to completion.

'Multi-Hazard Early Warning Decision Support System'

  • The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has developed the 'Multi-Hazard Early Warning Decision Support System' (MHEW-DSS)—a state-of-the-art, indigenous, and Web-GIS-based digital platform.

Key Facts:

  • Utilizing real-time data, GIS, and AI, this digital platform issues accurate, location-specific, and impact-based warnings for disasters such as cyclones, floods, and heatwaves, thereby improving disaster management and the protection of life and property by up to 50%.
  • Accurate and Rapid Forecasting: This system reduces the time required to generate forecasts by 50% and improves accuracy by up to 30%.
  • Location-Specific (Hyper-local) Alerts: Through 'Mausamgram', it provides weather forecasts extending up to 10 days for over 150,000 PIN codes.
  • Automated System: It operates automatically on a centralized, GIS-enabled platform by utilizing data from satellites, radars, and sensors.
  • Disaster Mitigation: It issues impact-based warnings for hazards such as cyclones, heavy rainfall, and heatwaves, resulting in a one-third reduction in evacuation costs.
  • Comprehensive Reach: It provides real-time alerts for India as well as neighboring countries through the IMD Geospatial website.

'Mukhyamantri Mavan Dhian Satkar Yojana'

  • The Bhagwant Mann-led government in Punjab has implemented the 'Mukhyamantri Mavan Dhian Satkar Yojana' (Chief Minister's Mothers and Daughters Honor Scheme).
  • Under this scheme, women in Punjab will now receive monthly financial assistance ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹1,500.

Key Facts:

  • During the 2022 Assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party had pledged to provide financial assistance of ₹1,000 to women.
  • According to the official notification, women who are currently beneficiaries of social security pensions will also be eligible to receive benefits under this scheme.
  • Under this scheme, women will receive financial assistance of ₹1,000, while women belonging to Scheduled Castes will be provided with ₹1,500.

Similar Schemes in Other States:

  • In Madhya Pradesh, the 'Ladli Behna Yojana' provides a monthly stipend of ₹1,500 to women aged between 21 and 60 years.
  • The Congress government in Karnataka runs the 'Gruha Lakshmi Yojana,' under which beneficiaries receive ₹2,000.
  • Maharashtra has the 'Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana,' through which underprivileged women receive ₹1,500.

OFC Backbone Project Approved

  • Indian Railways has approved an Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) backbone project across the Ahmedabad and Ratlam divisions at a cost of ₹398.36 crore to strengthen communication and safety systems.

Key Details:

  • Total Length: This network will span 1,929 Route Kilometers (RKm).
  • Ahmedabad Division: 1,456 Route Kilometers.
  • Ratlam Division: 473 Route Kilometers.
  • Technical Specifications: It will utilize 4×48 core (or two sets of 2×48) Optical Fiber Cables, ensuring high bandwidth and network redundancy.
  • Budgetary Context: This project is part of a larger "Umbrella Project" worth ₹27,693 crore, aimed at providing 'Kavach' and LTE-based communication systems across the remaining routes of Indian Railways.
  • Regional Allocation: A total "Sub-Umbrella" budget of ₹2,800 crore has been allocated to Western Railway, under which this specific work has been sanctioned.

Foundation Stone Laid for ‘Large Cavitation Tunnel’

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh laid the foundation stone for the state-of-the-art ‘Large Cavitation Tunnel’ (LCT) project at the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) in Visakhapatnam.
  • This advanced facility will indigenously bolster the design of Indian Navy destroyers and submarines, the validation of propulsion systems, and hydrodynamic research.

  • Strategic National Asset: It is envisioned as a strategic national asset that will aid in the design and development of next-generation ships, submarines, and underwater platforms.
  • Hydrodynamic Research: This facility will enable advanced hydrodynamic research, thereby assisting in the improvement of ship propulsion systems, noise reduction, and stealth capabilities.
  • Globally Unique: This tunnel will be capable of conducting both 'closed-loop simulations' for submarines and 'free-surface simulations' for surface vessels, making it one of the select facilities of its kind in the world.
  • Reduced Foreign Dependence: Until now, India had to rely on foreign facilities for critical testing. With the commissioning of this tunnel, India will be able to test indigenous equipment and systems using its own resources.
  • Verification of Major Platforms: It will facilitate the precise verification of the hydrodynamic designs of large naval platforms, such as destroyers and aircraft carriers.
