New District Court Complex at Kargil

  • In a major boost to the judicial infrastructure of Ladakh, the Chief Justice of India (CJI), Justice Surya Kant, inaugurated the new District Court Complex at Kargil.
  • The newly constructed facility at Kurbathang is designed to provide a "qualitative enhancement" to the local justice system.

National Consultation on Tele-Law programme

  • The Ministry of Law and Justice organized a National Consultation on Tele-Law programme activities in New Delhi under the DISHA Scheme to accelerate "Har Ghar Nyaya, Sabko Nyaya" (Justice in every home, Justice for all) by promoting legal literacy and strengthening the delivery of legal advice through technology.
  • Led by Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, the event highlighted advancements in providing affordable legal services via technology and launched initiatives like the Nyaya Setu mobile app and AI Chatbot.

5th Meeting of the National Consultative Committee on De-addiction and Rehabilitation

  • Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar chaired 5th Meeting of the National Consultative Committee on De-addiction and Rehabilitation (NCCDR) at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi.
  • Key agenda items were achievements under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA), the key features of NAPDDR 2.0, and the proposed Strategic Action Plan for 2026-29.

  • Advances in Obesity and Lipid Management in CVD: A Textbook of Cardiology is a comprehensive medical text authored by Dr. H.K. Chopra was released by Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh in New Delhi.

Study of Heart is known as Cardiology.

  • Structural Layers: The heart wall has three layers: Epicardium (outer), Myocardium (middle muscular layer responsible for pumping), and Endocardium (inner lining).
  • Chambers: Humans have a 4-chambered heart (2 atria and 2 ventricles).
  • Normal Heart Rate: Average of 72 beats per minute.
  • Stroke Volume: Approximately 70 mL of blood is pumped by each ventricle per beat.
  • Fishes: 2-chambered heart with Single Circulation.
  • Amphibians/Reptiles: 3-chambered heart with Incomplete Double Circulation (except crocodiles, which have 4 chambers).
  • Birds/Mammals: 4-chambered heart with Complete Double Circulation.

Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Report

  • In its March 2026 report, "Understanding and Mitigating the Risks of Offshore Virtual Asset Service Providers (oVASPs)," the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) specifically commended India's proactive measures against unregistered offshore platforms that pose money laundering and terror financing risks.

Financial Action Task Force (FATF)

  • Establishment: 1989 by the G7 Summit in Paris.
  • Headquarters: Paris, France (hosted by OECD).
  • Members: 40 member jurisdictions (including India) and 2 regional organizations (European Commission and Gulf Cooperation Council).
  • India's Status: Joined in June 2010. India achieved a top rating in 2024 ("Regular Follow-up") for its anti-money laundering efforts.
  • Objective: Set global standards (40+9 recommendations) for anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorist financing (CFT).

FATF Lists

  • Black List (High-Risk Jurisdictions): Countries with significant strategic deficiencies in countering AML/CFT. These face economic sanctions. Examples: North Korea, Iran, and Myanmar.
  • Grey List (Jurisdictions under Increased Monitoring): Countries that are actively working with the FATF to address strategic deficiencies. Listing brings reputational damage and makes it harder to get FDI/international loans.

IndiaSkills National Competition 2025-26

  • The IndiaSkills National Competition 2025-26 was Organised by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and supported by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) in Greater Noida.
  • This flagship event served as the final selection ground for India's representatives at the WorldSkills Competition Shanghai 2026.
  • The winners of this national round will form the Indian contingent for the WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, often called the "Olympics of Skills".

Great Indian Bustard chick born in Kutch

  • A critically endangered Great Indian Bustard (Ghorad) chick successfully hatched in Gujarat's Kutch district (Abdasa) marking a historic conservation milestone after nearly a decade.
  • A fertile egg was transported from Rajasthan, placed in a wild nest, and successfully hatched, with the chick now being reared in its natural habitat.

Great Indian Bustard

  • Scientific Name: Ardeotis nigriceps.
  • Status: Critically Endangered (IUCN Red List), Schedule I (Wildlife Protection Act, 1972), Appendix I (CITES).
  • Characteristics: One of the heaviest flying birds in the world; endemic to the Indian subcontinent.
  • Habitat: Primarily dry grasslands, arid and semi-arid regions. It is a flagship species of grassland ecosystems, indicating the health of the habitat.
  • State Bird: Rajasthan.
  • Core Area: Thar Desert in Rajasthan (Desert National Park) is the stronghold.
  • Other Populations: Found in small numbers in Gujarat (Kutch), Maharashtra (Solapur), Karnataka (Bellary/Koppal), and Andhra Pradesh (Rollapadu).

Conservation Efforts

  • Project Great Indian Bustard: Launched by the Rajasthan government in 2013 to conserve the remaining population.
  • National Bustard Recovery Program: Initiated by the Union Government for habitat improvement and breeding.
  • Conservation Breeding Centres: Established in Desert National Park (Rajasthan) for ex-situ conservation (similar to the Vulture Conservation Plan).
  • Bird Diverters: Installation of reflectors on power lines to make them visible to birds.
  • CMS (Convention on Migratory Species): Included in Appendix I (2020), which was also the COP13 mascot.

IMEX TTX 2026

  • The Indian Navy conducted a maritime exercise, IMEX TTX 2026 (IONS Maritime Exercise Tabletop Exercise 2026), at the Maritime Warfare Centre in Kochi.
  • The exercise focused on addressing non-traditional maritime security challenges in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), including enhancing information sharing, operational synergy, and coordination among member navies.
  • It took place as India assumed the IONS Chairmanship for the 2026–2028 cycle after a 16-year gap.
  • Delegates from 12 countries and international officers from IOS SAGAR participated, including Bangladesh, France, Indonesia, Kenya, Maldives, Mauritius, Myanmar, Seychelles, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, and Timor-Leste.
