‘Noida International Airport’

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first phase of the ‘Noida International Airport’ in Jewar, constructed at a cost of ₹11,200 crore.

Noida International Airport (NIA):

  • Other Name: Jewar Airport
  • Location: Gautam Buddha Nagar, Uttar Pradesh
  • Type: It is a Greenfield airport, designed to enhance connectivity for Delhi-NCR, Noida, and Western Uttar Pradesh.
  • Developer: Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a wholly-owned subsidiary (100%) of Zurich Airport International AG.
  • Key Feature: It is the 5th international airport in Uttar Pradesh and the second major airport in the Delhi-NCR region.
  • Upon full development, the airport will have an initial passenger handling capacity of 12 million passengers per annum, which can be expanded to accommodate up to 70 million passengers per annum.
  • The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) granted the operational (aerodrome) license to the Noida International Airport (NIA) in Jewar in March 2026, marking the final clearance required to commence commercial flight operations.

Agreement between the Delhi Government and Prasar Bharati

  • The Delhi Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Prasar Bharati with the objective of developing the national capital into a global hub.
  • The aim of this initiative is to create a state-of-the-art integrated ecosystem that will bring together key sectors of the media industry—film, television, animation, visual effects, gaming, and comics—on a single platform.

Agreement between C-DOT and Delhi Police

  • The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Delhi Police with the objective of empowering smart policing capabilities.
  • The aim is to strengthen the police's operational efficiency, communication, and emergency response capabilities by utilizing indigenous, secure, and state-of-the-art technologies (such as AI-based surveillance, facial recognition, and cybersecurity).

TV Rating Policy 2026

  • The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has notified the TV Rating Policy (TRP) 2026 to enhance transparency, accountability, and credibility in television viewership ratings within the country.

  • This policy establishes clear standards for the registration, operations, auditing, and monitoring of agencies providing TV rating services.
  • The net worth requirement for a company seeking registration as a TV rating agency has now been reduced from the current ₹20 crore to ₹5 crore.
  • To ensure impartiality, at least 50 percent of the members on the Board of Directors must be Independent Directors who have no affiliation with broadcasters, advertisers, or advertising agencies.
  • The policy includes provisions for the temporary suspension of ratings and the cancellation of registration in cases of repeated violations.
  • The TV Rating Policy 2026 supersedes the existing guidelines dated January 16, 2014, regarding TV rating agencies in India.

Untied Grants Approved for Maharashtra and Goa

  • The government has approved and released untied grants exceeding ₹592 crore from the 15th Finance Commission for Panchayati Raj Institutions and rural local bodies in Maharashtra and Goa.

Key Details:

  • Maharashtra: The first installment of ₹79.82 crore (representing the previously withheld portion) and the second installment of ₹221.82 crore have been released; this funding will serve to empower District, Block, and Village Panchayats. These grants have been approved for 12 eligible District Panchayats, 125 eligible Block Panchayats, and 27 Village Panchayats.
  • Goa: The first installment of ₹12.40 crore for the financial year 2024-25 has been released, covering 2 District Panchayats and 191 Village Panchayats. Under this initiative, two eligible District Panchayats and all 191 Village Panchayats across the state will be covered.
  • Objective of the Grants: These grants will be utilized by local bodies to address local requirements falling under the 29 subjects enumerated in the 11th Schedule of the Constitution.
  • Recommendation and Issuing Authority: These grants are released by the Ministry of Finance, acting upon the recommendations of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
  • Untied Grants: These provide flexibility for meeting local needs.
  • Tied Grants: These can be utilized exclusively for specific basic services such as sanitation, ODF (Open Defecation Free) maintenance, and drinking water supply.

Achievements of the BIND Scheme

  • Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, L. Murugan, informed the Rajya Sabha that 68 transmitters have been sanctioned under the Broadcasting Infrastructure and Network Development (BIND) scheme.

  • This will increase All India Radio's coverage from 70 percent in 2021 to 81 percent.
  • This is a Central Sector Scheme aimed at the development, modernization, and upgradation of the broadcasting infrastructure of Doordarshan and All India Radio across the country.
  • The scheme has been approved for the period 2021–26 with a total outlay exceeding ₹2,539 crore.
  • All India Radio has commenced digital broadcasting on the Medium Wave band in three metropolitan cities: Delhi, Chennai, and Mumbai.
  • Broadcasting Infrastructure and Network Development (BIND) Scheme:
  • This scheme is a Central Sector Scheme of the Government of India, which was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs in January 2023.
  • Implementing Ministry: Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
  • This scheme has been launched to modernize the infrastructure of Prasar Bharati (All India Radio and Doordarshan), enhance its reach, and provide high-quality content.

One Stop Centers in India

  • Savatri Thakur, the Minister of State for Women and Child Development, informed the Lok Sabha that 926 One Stop Centers are operational across the country to assist women in distress.
  • More than 1.3 million women have received assistance at these centers.
  • Under the 'Mission Shakti' scheme, over 15,000 Women Help Desks have been established within police stations.
  • Of these, more than 14,000 centers are being led by female police officers.

One Stop Centers (OSC) / Sakhi Centers:

  • This is an initiative launched by the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD).
  • Operational since April 1, 2015, this scheme—implemented nationwide under 'Mission Shakti'—provides immediate assistance to women grappling with violence (domestic, sexual, etc.).
  • Target Beneficiaries: The scheme extends support to all women and girls—including those under the age of 18—who have been affected by any form of violence, regardless of their caste, class, religion, region, marital status, education, gender identity, or culture.
  • This scheme is 100% funded by the Central Government through the Nirbhaya Fund and is implemented by the respective State and Union Territory governments.

Jan Vishwas (Provisions Amendment) Bill, 2026

  • Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Jitin Prasada, introduced the Jan Vishwas (Provisions Amendment) Bill, 2026, in the Lok Sabha.

Three Ancient Sculptures Returning to India from the U.S.

  • Three invaluable ancient bronze sculptures, stolen from temples in Tamil Nadu, are returning to India from the Smithsonian National Museum of Asian Art in Washington, D.C.
  • These include a 9th-century sculpture of Shiva Nataraja, a 12th-century sculpture of Somaskanda (Shiva-Uma), and a 16th-century sculpture of the saints Sundarar and Paravai.
