Odisha's First 'Smart Village'

  • Kusunpur village in Odisha is being developed as the state's first 'Smart Village'.
  • This initiative was spearheaded by the CSIR–Central Building Research Institute (CSIR-CBRI), Roorkee, under the leadership of Prof. Pradeep Kumar Ramancharla.
  • Satnavari village in the Nagpur district of Maharashtra is considered India's first official 'Smart and Intelligent Village'.

Amendments to the "Mutual Credit Guarantee Scheme"

  • In alignment with the Budget 2025-26, the government has introduced major amendments to the "Mutual Credit Guarantee Scheme" (MCGS-MSME), which was launched in January 2025 for MSME manufacturers and exporters.

Key Highlights:

Amendments to the existing "MCGS-MSME" Scheme:

  • Upfront Contribution: The 5% upfront contribution is refundable; 1% is refundable annually starting from the fourth year onwards, provided the performance of the loan account is satisfactory.
  • Eligibility: MSMEs in the service sector have also been included in this scheme.
  • Minimum Project Cost for Machinery/Equipment: The cost of equipment/machinery has been capped at 60% of the total project cost (previously, this limit was 75%).
  • Guarantee Tenure: The guarantee coverage will cease after 10 years.

Special provisions have been incorporated into the scheme specifically for exporters:

  • Eligible Exporters: Profit-making entities that have exported at least 25% of their sales turnover in each of the preceding 3 financial years and fulfill certain export realization conditions.
  • Guaranteed Loan Amount: ₹20 Crore.
  • Upfront Contribution: 2% of the loan amount (subject to a maximum of ₹40 Lakh); with a 1% refund provided during the fourth and fifth years of the guarantee tenure.
  • Guarantee Coverage: 75% of the defaulted amount.
  • Guarantee Fee: First Year: Nil; Thereafter (each subsequent year): 0.50% of the outstanding loan amount.

Mutual Credit Guarantee Scheme (MCGS-MSME):

  • Launch Year: 2025.
  • Loan Limit: A maximum loan of ₹100 Crore for the purchase of equipment/machinery.
  • Loan Guarantee: The National Credit Guarantee Trustee Company Ltd. (NCGTC) will provide guarantee coverage of 60% of the loan amount to Member Lending Institutions (MLIs). Project Cost: The minimum cost of equipment/machinery constitutes 75% of the project cost.
  • Scheme Period: For a period of 4 years, or until cumulative guarantees amounting to ₹7 lakh crore are issued, whichever occurs earlier.

20% Additional Allocation Approved for Commercial LPG

  • Providing relief to restaurants, *dhabas*, and hotels, the government has approved a 20% additional allocation for commercial LPG, thereby raising the total supply to 50%.
  • This includes a 10% allocation based on reforms aimed at the expansion of PNG services.

Key Facts:

  • Objective: To assist commercial establishments in operating smoothly amidst disruptions in energy supply caused by tensions in the Middle East.
  • Conditions: Registration with Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) is mandatory to avail of the additional gas.

The World's Third-Largest Metro Network

  • India's metro network has become the third-largest in the world, following China and the United States.

Key Facts:

  • Global Standing: Surpassing Japan in terms of network length, India has secured the third position globally, ranking after China and the United States.
  • Operational and Under Construction: Currently, over 1,143 km of lines are operational, while approximately 936 km are under construction.
  • Expansion: Expanding from just 5 cities in 2014, metro services are now available in 29 cities across India.
  • Daily Commuters: The metro network serves approximately 11.5 million (1.15 crore) passengers daily.
  • Leading Role: The Delhi Metro remains the backbone of the network, accounting for a significant share of the country's total metro usage.

RBI's 622nd Meeting

  • The Central Board of the RBI, in its 622nd meeting held in Patna, approved the budget for the financial year 2026-27 and the 'Utkarsh 3.0' strategic framework for the period 2026-29.
  • This meeting was presided over by the current RBI Governor, Sanjay Malhotra.

  • 'World Water Day' is observed annually on March 22nd with the objective of raising awareness regarding the importance of freshwater and promoting water conservation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Angkor Wat Temple

  • During his visit to Cambodia, P. Kumaran, Secretary (East) at the Ministry of External Affairs, visited the world-renowned Angkor Wat temple complex located in Siem Reap.
  • He highlighted the shared cultural heritage between India and Cambodia and recalled the pivotal role played by India in the conservation of the temple between 1986 and 1993.
  • India was the first country to provide assistance for the restoration of this temple, doing so from 1986 to 1993.
