Srinagar Central Jail's First Kashmiri Woman Superintendent

  • Saba Shawl was appointed the first Kashmiri woman Superintendent of Srinagar Central Jail in March 2026.

Related Facts:

  • Saba Shawl hails from Peerbagh, Srinagar, and passed the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) examination in 2012.
  • Prior to this appointment, she served as a staff officer in the office of the Director General of Prisons (DG Prisons).
  • She also served in the administrative departments of Kot Bhalwal Jail and Kupwara Jail in Jammu.
  • Srinagar Central Jail is one of the oldest and most sensitive jails in Jammu and Kashmir, housing over 900 inmates.

Launch of 'Hanuman' Project

  • The Andhra Pradesh government launched the 'Hanuman' project with the aim of reducing human-wildlife conflict and conserving wildlife.

  • 'Hanuman': Healing and Nurturing Units for Monitoring, Aid, and Nursing of Wildlife
  • Objective: To mitigate the increasing human-wildlife conflict in the state, rehabilitate injured wildlife, and enhance security in forest border areas.

  • Location: Unveiled at the parade ground of the 6th Battalion of the Andhra Pradesh Special Police in Mangalagiri, Guntur district.
  • Rescue Centers: 4 rescue and treatment centers established in Visakhapatnam, Rajamahendravaram, Tirupati, and Atmakur.
  • Technology: Use of AI-based early warning system and GPS-enabled tracking.
  • Participation: 19 Rapid Response Teams (RRTS) and 'Vajra' volunteers have been deployed at the village level.
  • Compensation Enhancement: The ex-gratia amount for human deaths has been increased from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh and for injuries to ₹2 lakh.

Mascots for Census 2027

  • Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah unveiled two official mascots for Census 2027, named "Vikas" (male enumerator) and "Pragati" (female enumerator), in New Delhi.
  • Along with the mascots, the Home Minister also soft-launched four digital tools developed by C-DAC to streamline the census process.
  • Census 2027 will be India's first fully digital census, with enumerators collecting data using a secure mobile application.
