UIDAI and Google sign agreement

  • The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and Google have signed an agreement to display authorized Aadhaar centers on Google Maps.

Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC):

  • Retail (e₹-R): For everyday transactions by the general public, private sector, and businesses.

  • No Bank Account Required: Unlike UPI, transactions through it do not require an intermediary bank account. It allows direct person-to-person (P2P) or person-to-merchant (P2M) payments.
  • Differentiates from cryptocurrencies: It is not decentralized like cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. It is fully controlled and backed by the RBI, making it secure and stable.
  • Key Benefits:
  • Security: Reduces the risk of counterfeit currency.
  • Cost Reduction: Saves the heavy expense of printing and managing physical notes.
  • Programmability: As seen in the Puducherry project, it can be programmed for specific purposes (such as food subsidies).
  • Offline Transactions: In the future, it is planned to be used even without internet.

'Rail Parcel App'

  • South Central Railway (SCR) launched the next-generation Rail Parcel App at Secunderabad Rail Nilayam.
