National News

Launch of e-Magic Box App

  • The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) launched an AI-powered early learning app called e-Magic Box for children aged 3 to 8 years.
  • The app is an initiative to strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) under the Ministry of Education's National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Key Features:

  • Three AI Bots: It includes three key AI assistants that help children, parents, and teachers:
  • Katha Sakhi: It tells stories to children to enhance their imagination.
  • Parent Tara: It answers parents' questions related to child parenting and development.
  • Teacher Tara: It suggests new and effective ways for teachers to teach in the classroom.
  • Interactive Content: The app features stories, songs, play-based activities, and interactive tools.
  • Multi-platform availability: This feature can be availed not only through the mobile app, but also through WhatsApp and Telegram.
  • Smartphone-free access: Those without smartphones can listen to the "Story of the Day" or "Song of the Day" by calling the toll-free IVRS number 1800-212-0173 or 15108.
  • Free and safe: It is completely free and designed to foster children's curiosity in a safe digital environment.
  • This initiative is accompanied by the "Kingdom of Learning and Learning" campaign on the NCERT official website to encourage more families to participate.

Signing of the 'Pax Silica' Declaration

  • India and the United States signed the 'Pax Silica' Declaration during the 'India AI Impact Summit 2026' held in New Delhi.
  • With this agreement, India becomes the 10th member of this US-led strategic alliance.

Launch of VVP-II

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the second phase of the 'Vivat Village Programme' (VVP-II) from Cachar district, Assam.

  • A total of 1,954 border villages across 15 states and two union territories will be covered under the second phase.
  • 140 border villages spread across 26 blocks in nine districts of Assam will be developed under this scheme.

Vibrant Village Programme-I (VVP-I):

India and Kenya sign agreement for DigiLocker pilot project

  • India and Kenya signed an implementation framework agreement for the DigiLocker pilot project in Kenya during the 'India AI Impact Summit'.

Related Facts:

  • Objective: To ensure secure digital storage and real-time verification of official documents for Kenyan citizens, students, and businesses.
  • This solution will be jointly developed by India's National e-Governance Division (NeGD) and Kenya's Ministry of Information, Communications and Digital Economy.

DigiLocker:

  • Launched: Launched by the Prime Minister on July 1, 2015, as a key part of the Digital India program.
  • Nodal Ministry: Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY)
  • Objective: To provide 'digital empowerment' to citizens and promote paperless governance by reducing the use of physical documents.
  • Legal Validity: Digital documents issued in DigiLocker are considered equivalent to original physical documents under Rule 9A of the Information Technology (Providing Digital Locker Facilities by Intermediaries) Rules, 2016.
  • DigiLocker has over 500 million registered users in India and over 9 billion digital documents have been issued through it.

State News

Directed the deployment of serving and former district judges: West Bengal

  • The Supreme Court directed the deployment of serving and former district judges to assist the Election Commission in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in West Bengal.
  • The Court took serious note of the state government's failure to provide sufficient 'A' class officers for the revision process.

Foundation Day of Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram

  • Every year on February 20th, the foundation day of Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram is celebrated, which were granted full statehood in 1987.

Mizoram (23rd State):

  • Mizoram became the 23rd state of the Indian Union. Originally known as the Lushai Hills district of Assam, it was renamed Mizo Hills in 1954. It gained statehood through the 53rd Constitutional Amendment Act (1986). Prior to this, it was part of Assam and became a Union Territory in 1972.

Arunachal Pradesh (24th State):

India's Unemployment Rate: January 2026

  • According to the latest Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) data, India's unemployment rate increased to 5.0% in January 2026, from 4.8% in December 2025.

  • South Asian littoral countries: India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka

  • East African littoral countries: Kenya, Mauritius, Mozambique, South Africa

  • Note: The IONS conference is held every two years, called the 'Conclave of Chiefs', where the naval chiefs of all member countries approve important decisions.

Successful Test of Drogue Parachute for Gaganyaan Mission

  • DRDO and ISRO successfully conducted a qualification-level load test of the drogue parachute for the Gaganyaan mission.
  • The test was conducted at the Rail Track Rocket Sled (RTRS) facility of the Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL) in Chandigarh.
