Foundation Stone of Quantum Valley

Context:

  • The foundation stone of Quantum Valley was laid in Amaravati, the capital city of Andhra Pradesh.

Key Points:

  • Foundation Stone Laid By: The foundation stone was laid by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Union Minister for Science & Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh at Uddandarayunipalem, Amaravati.
  • Objective: To develop India’s first comprehensive quantum ecosystem, where quantum hardware, software, and algorithms will be developed within a single integrated campus.
  • Area: The project will be spread over approximately 50 acres.
  • Partnerships: The Andhra Pradesh Government has signed agreements with leading companies such as IBM, TCS, and L&T for this project.
  • Training Initiative: Wipro will support workforce development through a Centre of Excellence (CoE) focused on quantum education.
  • Start-up & Industry MoUs: MoUs have been signed with several companies working in quantum hardware, algorithms, cryptography, and sensing technologies.
  • Human Capital Target: The state aims to train millions of students in quantum computing and allied technologies over the long term to build a future-ready workforce.
  • Quantum Computing Milestone: India’s first 133-qubit quantum computer will be established at Quantum Valley.

National Quantum Mission (NQM):

  • Launch Year: 2023
  • Implementing Agency: Department of Science and Technology (DST)
  • Budget: ₹6,000 crore (2023–2031)
  • Main Objective:

To position India among the top six quantum technology-enabled countries in the world.

  • Key Areas:

– Quantum Computing

– Quantum Communication

– Quantum Sensing

– Quantum Materials

  • Target:

To develop a secure quantum communication network up to 2,000 km by 2031.
