National News

Launch of the portal 'SATYA'

  • The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology launched the Standardization Testing and Quality Certification Lab Automation portal 'SATYA'.
  • Developed by C-DAC, this portal is in line with the national vision of 'Minimum Government - Maximum Governance' and 'Ease of Doing Business'.

Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in the Country

  • According to Minister of State for Heavy Industries Bhupathiraju Srinivas Varma, a total of over 29,000 public electric vehicle charging stations have been installed in the country.
  • The government has allocated over ₹912 crore under the FAME-2 scheme and ₹2,000 crore under the PM e-Drive scheme to establish adequate public electric vehicle charging infrastructure across the country.

No-Confidence Motion Against Lok Sabha Speaker

  • During the Budget Session, opposition parties submitted a notice of no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
  • The opposition accused the Speaker of "partisan behavior," not allowing opposition leaders (particularly Rahul Gandhi) time to speak, and violating rules.

  • Constitutional Provisions: This notice was filed under Article 94(c) of the Constitution and Rule 94C of the Lok Sabha Rules. Under these provisions, 14 days' prior notice is mandatory for the removal of the Speaker.
  • Article 96: The Speaker cannot preside over the House while a resolution to remove him is pending. He has the right to participate and speak in the proceedings of the House. He has the right to vote in the first instance, but cannot cast a casting vote in the event of a tie.

Special Economic Package for Seychelles

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a special economic package of $175 million for Seychelles.
  • The announcement was made after bilateral talks with Seychelles President Dr. Patrick Herminie at Hyderabad House in New Delhi.
  • India and Seychelles signed seven MoUs in various sectors, including health, meteorology, electronics and information technology, and good governance.

Unsecured Loan Limit for Micro and Small Enterprises

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) increased the unsecured loan limit for micro and small enterprises from ₹10 lakh to ₹20 lakh.

  • Effective Date: These new rules will apply to all loans sanctioned or renewed on or after April 1, 2026.
  • Extension for PMEGP Units: This limit will also apply to all units funded under the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) and administered by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).
  • Possibility of Higher Loan Limit: Banks can increase this limit up to ₹25 lakh based on their internal policy and the good track record and financial position of the borrower.
  • Voluntary Collateral: The RBI has clarified that if a borrower voluntarily pledges gold or silver, it will not be considered a violation of the rules for unsecured loans.

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) approved the appointment of R. Vijay Anand as the new Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of City Union Bank (CUB).
