Agreement between Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Bharat Taxi

  • The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bharat Taxi to launch regulated and passenger-friendly cab services at airports.
  • Bharat Taxi is India's first cooperative-based ride-hailing platform, which was formally launched by the Union Home and Cooperation Minister, Amit Shah, on February 5, 2026, in New Delhi.

First Port to Implement Anti-Drone Security System

  • V.O. Chidambaranar (VOC) Port Authority, Thoothukudi, has become the first port in India to implement an advanced anti-drone security system.

Maharashtra Panchayat Elections

  • A total of 68.28% voter turnout was recorded yesterday in the elections for 12 Zilla Parishads and 125 Panchayat Samitis in Maharashtra.
  • Parbhani recorded the highest turnout at 74.89%, while Ratnagiri recorded the lowest at 55.79%.

Panchayati Raj System:

  • It is a system of local self-governance at the rural level.
  • Founder: Lord Ripon is considered the father of local self-governance in India.
  • Beginning: In independent India, the Panchayati Raj system was first introduced on October 2, 1959, in Nagaur district of Rajasthan by the then Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
  • Constitutional Status: Panchayats received constitutional recognition through the 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act, 1992.

Three-tier Structure:

  • A three-tier system was adopted in India on the recommendation of the Balwant Rai Mehta Committee (1957).

'Tamil Nadu Urban Greening Policy 2026' Unveiled

  • Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin unveiled the state's first 'Tamil Nadu Urban Greening Policy 2026'.
  • The main objective of this policy is to make cities more resilient to climate change, livable, and sustainable.

  • Each Urban Local Body (ULB) will have to strive to maintain at least 15% of its total geographical area as 'green cover'.
  • Under the policy, trees, urban forests, parks, and wetlands will be mandatorily included in city planning and development.

  • The state will adopt international standards such as the '3-30-300' urban green livability guidelines and the 'Singapore Index' (City Biodiversity Index).
  • Funding for greening projects will be mobilized from existing schemes like AMRUT, Smart Cities Mission, and Green Tamil Nadu Mission. Digital dashboards and geo-tagging will be used for monitoring.
  • This supports the Green Tamil Nadu Mission's goal of increasing the state's overall green cover from 23.7 percent to 33 percent.

First International Exhibition of Devni Mori Relics

  • Sanchi, Madhya Pradesh: Relics of Buddha's chief disciples (Sariputra and Mahamoggallana) have been found in the stupas here.
  • Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh: This is where Buddha attained Mahaparinirvana. The Ramabhar Stupa here is considered to be his cremation site, from where the relics were collected.
  • Sri Lanka: The sacred tooth relic of Lord Buddha is preserved in the Dalada Maligawa in Kandy.
  • China: The Famen Temple is believed to house a bone relic of Buddha's finger.

9th Bird Festival: Goa
