Total Area Sown Under Rabi Crops: As of January 30, 2026

  • According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, the total area sown under Rabi crops across the country has reached 676.84 lakh hectares as of January 30, 2026, which is 2.40% higher than the previous year.
  • Wheat sowing has seen the highest increase this season (over 334.17 lakh hectares), while the area under pulses has also increased to between 137 and 139 lakh hectares.

18% Tariff on Made in India Products

  • US President Donald Trump has reduced the tariff on Made in India products from 50% to 18%.

‘Project Vault’ Launched

Nationwide Migration Survey Announced

  • The National Statistical Office (NSO), under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), has announced that it will conduct a comprehensive nationwide migration survey from July 2026 to June 2027.
  • The survey aims to collect updated data on rural-urban migration, seasonal migration, and the employment profiles of migrants, which will aid in policy formulation.

Yantra India Limited (YIL) granted Miniratna Category-I status

  • The Ministry of Defence has approved granting Miniratna Category-I status to Yantra India Limited (YIL).

UPI's Historic Transaction Milestone: January 2026

  • According to data released by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) set a new historical record in January 2026.

  • Total Transaction Value: ₹28.33 lakh crore (an all-time high), representing a monthly increase of approximately 21% compared to ₹27.97 lakh crore in December 2025.
  • Daily Average: In January, an average of 700 million transactions were processed daily, with an average value of approximately ₹91,400 crore.
  • Growth Rate: A monthly growth of 21% in terms of value was recorded compared to December 2025 (₹27.97 lakh crore).
  • In January 2026 alone, Indians conducted 21.7 billion UPI transactions worth ₹28.33 lakh crore – higher than in December and representing a robust 28 percent increase compared to the previous year.

Kabak Yano

  • Indian mountaineer Kabak Yano achieved a historic feat by hoisting the tricolor flag on Mount Aconcagua (6,961 meters/22,831 feet), the highest peak in South America, located in Argentina.
  • This is her fourth successful climb towards her 'Seven Summits' goal (the highest peaks of the seven continents).
  • Previously, she has conquered Mount Everest (Asia), Mount Kilimanjaro (Africa), and Mount Elbrus (Europe).
  • Kabak Yano hails from Arunachal Pradesh.

Mount Aconcagua:

  • Mountain Range: Andes
  • It is the highest peak in South America.

Crafoord Prize 2026
