24th Pune International Film Festival

  • The 24th Pune International Film Festival (PIFF 2026) was held from January 15-22, 2026, with the main highlight being the birth centenary of Guru Dutt.

MSDE and WEF Agreement

Telangana Government's Agreements at the World Economic Forum

  • Rashmi Group signed an MoU to invest ₹12,500 crore in a steel manufacturing unit in Telangana, while L'Oréal announced that it will inaugurate its Beauty Tech Hub in Hyderabad in November with an initial investment of approximately ₹3,500 crore.

India Post Revenue Targets

  • The Department of Posts has set a revenue target of over ₹17,500 crore for the current financial year.
  • This is 30 percent higher than the previous year.

Salary Revision Approved for Insurance Companies and NABARD

  • The central government has approved the salary revision for employees of public sector general insurance companies and the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).

  • Watermarks or clear markings are required on AI-generated content (deepfakes, images), and startups have been granted a one-year grace period.

208 Additional Carbon-Intensive Industries Notified for GHG Emission Targets

  • In a significant step towards combating climate change and achieving net-zero targets, the Central Government, in January 2026, notified greenhouse gas (GHG) emission intensity targets for 208 additional carbon-intensive industries.

  • Bharti Airtel has become the first telecom operator in the country to provide seamless mobile connectivity and high-speed data network on Kolkata's Vidyasagar Setu (also known as the Second Hooghly Bridge).
  • This initiative was implemented in collaboration with the Government of West Bengal, the West Bengal Police Traffic Department, and the Hooghly River Bridge Commissioners.
  • Under this initiative, Airtel laid 1.3 kilometers of fiber optic cable across the entire bridge and installed network antennas on six pillars.

Fujiyama Solar Cell Plant Inaugurated in Uttar Pradesh

  • Fujiyama Power Systems has inaugurated a solar cell manufacturing plant in Dadri, Uttar Pradesh, at a cost of Rs. 300 crore.
  • The company currently operates with a total solar panel manufacturing capacity of 1.6 gigawatts, of which 1.2 gigawatts are located in Dadri.

Country's First Platform to Declare and Pay Dividends

  • Receivables Exchange of India Limited (RXIL) has become the country's first TReDS (Trade Receivables Discounting System) platform to declare and pay dividends in India.
