First Vande Bharat Sleeper Train

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper Train between Howrah and Guwahati (Kamakhya) at Malda town railway station.
  • The Vande Bharat Sleeper train comprises 16 modern coaches with a total capacity of 823 passengers.

Bagurumba Dwhou 2026

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in “Bagurumba Dwhou 2026” which is a cultural event celebrating the rich heritage of the Bodo community in Guwahati, Assam.
  • It featured a record-breaking performance of the traditional Bagurumba dance by over 10,000 artistes from the Bodo community.

10th anniversary of Startup India

AP FIRST research centre in Tirupati

  • Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu approved the establishment of a premier research hub in Tirupati named AP Futuristic Innovation and Research in Science and Technology (AP FIRST).

  • Strategic Collaboration: The center will be developed through a combination of two national institutions in Tirupati: the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Tirupati and the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Tirupati.

  • The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), also known as the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM), is the governing civic body responsible for the administration of Mumbai.
  • Established in 1888, it is the wealthiest municipal corporation in India, with an annual budget that exceeds those of several smaller Indian states.

Japan-India AI Strategic Dialogue

  • India and Japan officially launched the Japan-India AI Strategic Dialogue to accelerate bilateral cooperation in artificial intelligence.
  • The initiative was unveiled during the 18th India-Japan Strategic Dialogue in New Delhi, co-chaired by Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi.
  • Both nations in order to advance cooperation in rare earth elements and critical minerals, both sides decided to convene the Joint Working Group on Critical Minerals in early 2026 which is a new initiative.

  • Talent and Human Resources: Japan intends to invite 500 highly skilled AI professionals from India by 2030 to promote joint research and address workforce needs.

MSME defence conclave 2026

Praveen Vashista as Vigilance Commissioner

  • President Droupadi Murmu appointed Praveen Vashista as Vigilance Commissioner in the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).
  • The appointment was made under Section 4(1) of the Central Vigilance Commission Act, 2003.

About Central Vigilance Commission (CVC)

  • Established: February 1964 based on the recommendations of the Santhanam Committee.
  • Status: Granted statutory status in September 2003 under the CVC Act, 2003.
  • Role: An independent autonomous body that monitors all vigilance activity under the Central Government. It is not controlled by any ministry and reports directly to the Parliament of India.

GRAP-III reimposed in Delhi-NCR

  • This proactive measure was taken after Delhi's average Air Quality Index (AQI) rose to 354 ("Very Poor") and was forecast to enter the "Severe" category (401–450) due to unfavorable meteorological conditions.

International Dugong Conservation Centre

  • The Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) of the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change directed the Tamil Nadu government to substantially revise the design of the proposed International Dugong Conservation Centre at Manora in Thanjavur.
