Four entities have filed an appeal in the Bombay High Court Division Bench in the RCom case.

  • Four entities have filed an appeal in the Bombay High Court Division Bench in the fraud classification case related to Reliance Communications (RCom).

Relevant facts:

  • Appellant entities: Bank of Baroda, IDBI Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, and auditor BDO India LLP
  • Reason for appeal: These entities are challenging the interim order of December 24, 2025, issued by a single-judge bench (Justice Milind Jadhav), which stayed the banks' proceedings to declare Anil Ambani and RCom's accounts as 'fraudulent'.
  • Main basis of the dispute:
  • The single-judge bench granted the stay on the grounds that the person who signed the Forensic Audit Report (FAR) used by the banks was not a Chartered Accountant (CA), which violates the RBI's 2024 Master Directions.
  • The banks argue that the audit report was under the 2016 circular and they consider it valid.

  • Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the two-day 'Uttar Pradesh AI and Health Innovation Summit' at Hotel Centrum in Lucknow on January 12 and 13, 2026.
  • This summit was organized as part of the 'India-AI Impact Summit 2026'.

  • Following the detection of suspected Nipah virus cases in West Bengal, the central government has deployed a national joint outbreak response team.

  • It is a zoonotic virus that spreads from animals (primarily bats and pigs) to humans. It can also spread from person to person.

Incentives for Electric Vehicles

  • According to official figures, the Indian government has provided incentives for more than 13,61,000 electric vehicles (EVs) so far through the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI-Auto) scheme for automobiles and auto components and other supporting schemes.
  • Under this scheme, incentives of 13 to 18 percent are provided for electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell components, and 8 to 13 percent for other advanced automotive technology components.

Production-Linked Incentive (PLI-Auto) Scheme for Automobiles and Auto Components:

  • This is a central sector scheme of the Government of India, launched in 2021 to promote domestic manufacturing of advanced automotive technology (AAT) products (such as electric and hydrogen vehicles), reduce import dependence, attract investment, and build global supply chains.
  • It has a budgetary outlay of ₹25,938 crore and is applicable from FY2022-23 to FY2026-27, under which companies receive incentives based on sales and investment.
  • The PLI-Auto scheme provides incentives only for products with a minimum of 50 percent domestic value addition.
  • The ministry stated that a total investment of ₹35,657 crore has been made so far under the PLI-Auto scheme, and approximately 49,000 jobs have been created.

The country's direct tax collection in the financial year 2025-26

  • The country's direct tax collection in the financial year 2025-26 reached over ₹18.38 lakh crore by January 11, registering a growth of 8.82 percent.

  • The 16th Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) was held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, from January 10 to 12, 2026.
  • This was the first major international energy meeting of 2026.

  • Theme: This year's theme was "Powering Humanity: Renewable Energy for Shared Prosperity."
  • Participants: Over 1,500 ministers, senior officials, business leaders, and stakeholders from around the world.
  • The conference highlighted the growing role of the International Renewable Energy Agency in global energy policy.
  • India's Participation: India's Union Minister, Pralhad Joshi, participated in the meeting and emphasized India's approach to energy transition, "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam - One Earth, One Family, One Future."   • Members adopted the agency's program and budget for 2026-27.

Science and Technology

Inauguration of GBRC's BSL-4 Biosafety Facility

  • Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah laid the foundation stone and inaugurated the Biosafety Level-4 (BSL-4) biosafety facility of the 'Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre' (GBRC) in Pethapur, Gandhinagar district, on January 13, 2026.
  • This is India's second high-tech BSL-4 laboratory after the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune, and the first to be built by a state government.

  • Cost and Area: The center is being built at a cost of ₹362 crore and is spread over an area of ​​approximately 11,000 square meters.

PSLV-C62 Mission

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation's (ISRO) PSLV-C62 mission, carrying 16 satellites including the 'Anvesha' satellite, failed due to a technical malfunction.
  • Anomalous behavior and deviation from the flight path were detected in the vehicle during the final moments of the third stage (PS3) after launch from Sriharikota on January 12, 2026.

Anvesha (EOS-N1):

  • This was a crucial Earth Observation Satellite (EOS-N1) developed by ISRO.
  • Objective: Its primary objective was to provide detailed mapping of the Earth's surface, monitor agricultural activities, manage water resources, and assist in relief efforts by providing timely data during natural disasters.
  • It was developed by DRDO.
  • This is the second PSLV failure within 8 months. Previously, the PSLV-C61 mission in May 2025 also failed due to a similar malfunction in the third stage.
