Two new services announced: Indian Post

  • The Union Ministry of Communications has announced two new services of Indian Post, 'Speed ​​Post 24' and 'Speed ​​Post 48'.

Related facts:

  • Speed ​​Post 24: Delivery of important documents and parcels under this service will be ensured within 24 hours of booking. Initially, the facility will be available mainly in big metro cities and major routes.
  • Speed ​​Post 48: This service will be for other routes and regions, where delivery will be guaranteed within 48 hours.

Cornerstone of several projects of Visakhapatnam Port Authority

  • Union Minister for Transport, Shipping and Waterways Sarbanand Sonowal laid the foundation stone of four major infrastructure projects worth over ₹230 crore of the Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) in Visakhapatnam on January 10, 2026.

Key details of the projects:

  • Upgradation of fire fighting facilities at LPG berth: Safety systems will be strengthened as per OISD norms at a cost of ₹52.23 crore.
  • Modernization of ORS Dry Dock: An investment of ₹35.87 crore will modernize the dock for ship repair and revenue generation.
  • Administrative Building (Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Bhawan): G+9 Administrative Building will be constructed at a cost of ₹97.70 crore as per Green Building standards.
  • Residential complex (Harbour Park): Residential apartments to be constructed at a cost of ₹44.20 crore for land monetization and staff facilities

‘Maritime India Vision 2030’ :

  • Pattan is a strategic blueprint prepared by the Ministry of Transport and Waterways
  • Main Objective: To make India's Maritime Sector a global leader in the next decade
  • It was launched in 2021 and is now seen as the initial phase of the larger goal of ‘Amrit Kaal Vision 2047’

  • World-class ports: Developing 3 ‘mega ports’ in India with a capacity of more than 300 million tonnes per annum (MTPA)

Launch of NIDMS

  • Union Home Minister virtually launched NIDMS at Manesar Training Center of NSG.
  • This platform is the AI-powered national database for collecting, analyzing, and sharing data related to explosive devices (IEDs) in terrorist incidents.

  • NIDMS is developed by NSG’s National Bomb Data Centre, with collaboration from RRU, IIT-Delhi, NIA and I4C.
  • It expedites investigations by providing real-time data to the state police, CAPF, ATS and NIA.

Inauguration of second Bailey Bridge : Sri Lanka

  • India inaugurated the second Bailey Bridge under Operation Sagar Bandhu in Cyclone Ditwah-hit Sri Lanka, a 120-foot-long dual carriageway in Kilinochchi district (Northern Province).
  • Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha said the inauguration also marked the formal launch of the $450-crore aid package being provided by India for the reconstruction of Sri Lanka.
  • Under the Sagar Bandhu Abhiyan, India provided 228 tonnes of belly bridge construction materials to Sri Lanka in post-disaster assistance.

exports to China in the current fiscal year 2025-26

  • India’s exports to China rose 33% to $12.22 billion from April to November in the current fiscal year 2025-26, a four-year high.

World's first producer of bio-bitumen

  • India has become the first country in the world to produce bio-bitumen on a commercial scale.
  • It is being produced primarily from agricultural residues (such as paddy straw) and other organic waste, which promotes the ‘Waste to Wealth’ mission.

  • Bio-oil is extracted by heating agricultural waste in an oxygen-free atmosphere, which is added to conventional bitumen up to 15%.
  • This indigenous technology developed by CSIR-CRRI and CSIR-Dehradun adopts zero-waste model, where bio-char is used as fertilizer and bio-gas is used as energy.
  • Benefits and impacts: Reduction in pollution due to stubble burning, Rs 4,500 crore annual savings of foreign exchange, strengthening of roads and 25-30% reduction in maintenance costs. Successful trials have already taken place on the Jorahat-Shillong Expressway.

National Human Trafficking Awareness Day

  • National Human Trafficking Awareness Day is observed on 11th January every year.
  • The day focuses on raising awareness against serious crimes such as human trafficking, protecting the rights of victims and preventive measures.

FIFA World Cup 2026

  • Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya unveiled the FIFA World Cup 2026 trophy in New Delhi with former Brazilian footballer Gilberto DiSilva.
  • This marked the beginning of the three-day journey of the prestigious trophy to India.

FIFA World Cup 2026 :

  • It will be the first time that the tournament will be hosted by three countries together and 48 teams will participate.
