NHAI Sets Two Guinness World Records

- The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has set two new world records by laying bituminous concrete on the Vanvolu-Vankarakunta section of the six-lane Bengaluru-Kadapa-Vijayawada Economic Corridor (NH-544G) in Andhra Pradesh on January 6, 2026.

- Longest Distance: Record of laying 28.95 lane kilometers of bituminous concrete road continuously within 24 hours.
- Highest Quantity: Record of using 10,675 metric tons of bituminous concrete consecutively within 24 hours.
- Location: This work was conducted at Vanvolu-Vankarkunta stretch located in Puttaparthi Mandal of Sri Sathya Sai district of Andhra Pradesh.

Public Private Partnership Reproject Pipeline Unveiled

- In compliance with the announcement of the Union Budget 2025-26, the Ministry of Finance (Department of Economic Affairs), Government of India, unveiled a three-year comprehensive Public Private Partnership (PPP) project pipeline in January 2026.

- Number of projects: This pipeline includes a total of 852 infrastructure projects.

- The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is leading with 108 projects (costing ₹8.77 lakh crore).

- Among the states, Andhra Pradesh leads with 270 PPP projects (costing ₹1.16 lakh crore) proposed.

Pooja Archana at Shri Venketeshwar Swamy Temple: President of Mauritius

- Mauritius President Dharambir Gokhul offered prayers at the Lord Shri Venkateshwara Swamy Temple in Tirumala, Andhra Pradesh, on the morning of January 7, 2026, during his visit to India.

'Pank' reported two serious cases

- The human rights organization ‘Paank’ (Paank Human Rights Organisation), which works for Baloch human rights, has reported two serious cases of violence against civilians by Pakistani security forces in Balochistan province.

- First case (Mastung): Pank reported on 5 January 2026 that Pakistani security forces allegedly attacked a villager’s house in Mastung district of Balochistan. During this action, a woman and a girl were "forced disappearance" (enforced disappearance), while the men of the house were beaten. The incident has been internationally condemned.
- Second Case (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Border): In another incident, security forces carried out an operation near the border of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Here, too, there were reports of violations of citizens’ rights and alleged mistreatment of innocent people.

Bangladesh to import diesel from India till December 2026

- Bangladesh will import 180,000 tonnes of diesel from India’s state-owned Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) worth Tk 14.62 billion (about Tk 1,462 crore) by December 2026.

Formation of a study-group for rehabilitation of Agniveers : Maharashtra

- The Maharashtra government constituted a study-group for the rehabilitation of the Agniveers.
- The group will be led by retired Colonel Deepak Thonge.
- The first batch of 2,839 Agniveers is going to complete its 4 years of service in October-November this year.
- As per the resolution issued by the General Administration Department of the state government, 25 per cent of the Agniveers will be regularized in the armed forces.

Agreement between I&B and WaveX

- WaveX, the startup accelerator initiative of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B), Government of India, signed an important agreement on 6 January 2026 to promote startups in the fields of media, entertainment and communication technology.

Sowing of crops in the current Rabi season (2025-26)

- According to the latest data released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in January 2026, the sowing of crops has made remarkable progress in the current Rabi season (2025-26).
