Agreement between Indian Army and NSUT

  • The Indian Army has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Netaji Subhas University of Technology (NSUT) for the development of software and AI-based solutions.
  • Under the agreement, NSUT students and faculty members will participate in the Army’s “real problem-solving projects” to gain practical experience.

WHO Second Global Traditional Medicine Summit – Key Details

  • On the occasion of the closing of the second WHO Global Traditional Medicine Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the WHO Technical Report on Yoga Training and the book “From Roots to Global Reach: 11 Years of Transformation in AYUSH.”

Two-Day PESA Festival

  • The Ministry of Panchayati Raj inaugurated a two-day PESA Festival in Visakhapatnam on 23 December 2025 to mark the anniversary of the Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act, 1996.

PESA Act, 1996:

  • Under Article 243M(4)(b) of the Constitution, Parliament enacted the "Provisions of the Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act, 1996" (commonly known as the PESA Act) to extend the provisions of Part IX of the Constitution to Scheduled Areas with certain exceptions and modifications. Scheduled Areas are those areas declared as such by the President of India.
  • Article 244(1) of the Constitution and the Fifth Schedule contain provisions relating to these areas.
  • Since these areas are mentioned in the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution, they are also called Fifth Schedule Areas.
  • Currently, the areas covered under the Fifth Schedule are notified in 10 states, including Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, and Telangana.

Relief Package for Cyclone Ditwah-Affected Areas in Sri Lanka

  • India will provide a $450 million package to assist in the reconstruction of areas affected by Cyclone Ditwah in Sri Lanka.
  • This package includes a concessional line of credit of $350 million and a grant of $100 million, aimed at supporting the rebuilding efforts in the cyclone-affected regions.

Anti-Submarine Shallow Water Craft 'Anjadip'

  • The third Anti-Submarine Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC) 'Anjadip' was commissioned into the Indian Navy on December 22, 2025, in Chennai.

IOL Signs Two Agreements with French Company Safran Electronics & Defense

  • India Optel Limited (IOL) has signed two agreements with the French company Safran Electronics & Defense to develop two critical enabling systems for warfare in India: the SIGMA 30N Digital Ring Laser Gyro Inertial Navigation System and the CM3-MR Direct Firing Sight.

SIGMA 30N Digital Ring Laser Gyro:

  • Usage: It is integrated into artillery guns, air defense systems, missile platforms, and radars.
  • Features: It utilizes ring laser gyro technology, making it highly accurate and reliable even in challenging military environments.
  • Strategic Advantage: It provides artillery units with the capability to engage targets autonomously.

CM3-MR Direct Firing Sight:

  • Usage: Primarily for artillery guns (such as howitzers) and anti-drone systems.
  • Features: It includes a daytime optical channel, thermal imaging for nighttime use, and a secure laser rangefinder.
  • Benefits: It helps in identifying and accurately destroying enemy drones or targets in all weather and lighting conditions.

Index of Eight Core Industries Shows Growth

  • The index of eight core industries (coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertilizers, steel, cement, and electricity) increased by 1.8% in November 2025 compared to November 2024.

  • Positive Contribution: Cement (14.5%), steel (6.1%), fertilizers (5.6%), and coal (2.1%) production increased.

Report on the Progress of Rabi Crop Sowing

  • According to the report on the progress of sowing under the Rabi crops by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, more than 580 lakh hectares have been sown with crops in the country for the Rabi season 2025-26 so far, which is approximately 8 lakh hectares more than the same period last year.
  • The highest increase has been recorded in wheat, pulses (chickpeas, lentils, peas), and oilseeds (mustard, rapeseed), while there has been a slight decrease in paddy and some coarse grains. The total sowing has increased by 10-12% compared to last year, indicating a potential increase in food grain production.

Indian economy records fastest growth in the last six quarters

  • According to the Reserve Bank of India, the Indian economy recorded its fastest growth in the last six quarters in the second quarter of fiscal year 2025-26, driven by strong domestic demand.
  • India's economic growth rate between July and September was 8.2 percent, the highest in six quarters.
  • It was 7.8 percent in the previous quarter.

  • This report provides strategic suggestions for making India a global education hub.

  • The report highlights that over 1.335 million Indian students are studying abroad, with Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Germany as the top destinations.
  • In contrast, India hosts only about 47,000 international students, while a target of 0.79–1.1 million international students by 2047 has been set. The report is based on consultations with 160 Indian institutions and stakeholders from 16 countries.
