National News

Prime Minister’s Visit to West Bengal and Assam

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on an important two-day visit to West Bengal and Assam from 20 December 2025. During this visit, he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for development projects worth over ₹18,000 crore.

West Bengal Visit (December 20):

  • Beginning: From Ranaghat in Nadia district of Bengal
  • Projects: Inauguration of National Highway (NH) projects worth approximately ₹3,200 crore
  • NH-34 Expansion: Inauguration of a 66.7 km long 4-lane stretch from Barajaguli to Krishnanagar. This will reduce travel time between Kolkata and Siliguri by approximately 2 hours.
  • Foundation Stone Laying: Laying of the foundation stone for the 4-lane work of the Barasat-Barajaguli section in North 24 Parganas.

Assam Visit (December 20-21):

  • Total Investment: ₹15,600 crore
  • Inauguration of the new terminal building of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport. This is India's first 'nature-themed' airport terminal.
  • Ammonia-Urea Project: Bhoomi Pujan (groundbreaking ceremony) for a fertilizer project worth over ₹10,600 crore at Namrup in Dibrugarh.

Safety Seminar 2025

  • The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) organized the “Safety Seminar 2025” on 18–19 December 2025 at the Indian Aviation Academy (IAA), Vasant Kunj, New Delhi.

Sikki Art Painting Presentation

Formation of the India–Netherlands Joint Trade and Investment Committee (JTIC)

  • India and the Netherlands formally announced the establishment of the India–Netherlands Joint Trade and Investment Committee (JTIC) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Sri Lanka receives emergency aid from the IMF

  • The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved emergency assistance of $206 million for Sri Lanka.
  • This assistance will be used to meet the needs arising from Cyclone Ditwah and to maintain macroeconomic stability.
  • Cyclone Ditwah caused widespread damage in Sri Lanka and resulted in the deaths of more than 643 people. This aid will help in rehabilitation efforts.

Agreements with Nine Pharmaceutical Companies

  • US President Donald Trump announced new agreements with nine pharmaceutical companies aimed at reducing the prices of certain prescribed medicines.
  • Under these agreements, “Most-Favored-Nation (MFN)” pricing will be applied nationwide to new drugs manufactured by these companies. The MFN pricing will cover the commercial market, cash-pay market, as well as medical assistance programs, ensuring broader access to affordable medicines across the country.

Agreement to provide loan to Ukraine

  • The European Union has agreed to provide Ukraine with a loan of 90 billion euros from its budget.
  • The agreement, reached during a summit in Brussels, will help meet Ukraine's military and economic needs for the next two years.

'Harimau Shakti 2025'

  • Indian Contingent: Approximately 120 personnel, primarily from the Dogra Regiment.

SSB Foundation Day
