National News

Sixth Session of the Eighteenth Lok Sabha

  • The sixth session of the Eighteenth Lok Sabha concluded on 19 December 2025.

  • 15 sittings were held during the session

  • On December 15, 2025, after discussion, the Supplementary Demands for Grants - First Batch, 2025-26 were voted upon. Subsequently, the Appropriation (No. 4) Bill, 2025 was passed.
  • On December 8, 2025, the Prime Minister organized a discussion to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the national song "Vande Mataram".
  • During the session, 300 starred questions were admitted and oral answers were given to 72 starred questions. A total of 3449 unstarred questions were admitted during the session.
  • A total of 408 matters of urgent public importance were raised by members during Zero Hour and a total of 372 matters were considered under Rule 377. On December 11, 2025, 150 members raised their matters during Zero Hour in the House.
  • On December 2, 2025, Shalva Papuashvili, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, and his parliamentary delegation were welcomed by the Parliament of India during their official visit.

India-Oman CEPA Agreement

  • India and Oman signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) on December 18, 2025.

Key Facts:

  • Oman has completely eliminated customs duties on 98.08% of Indian products.
  • This covers approximately 99.38% of India's total export value.
  • India has agreed to reduce or eliminate duties on 77.79% of Omani products.
  • This includes dates, marble, and petrochemical products, but excludes sensitive sectors such as dairy, tea, coffee, and sugar.
  • The duration of stay for contractual service providers has been increased from 90 days to 2 years.
  • The quota for intra-company transfers has been increased from 20% to 50%.
  • Indian companies have been allowed 100% Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in key service sectors in Oman.
  • For the first time, special provisions have been made for the traditional medicine (AYUSH) and wellness sectors.
  • Total bilateral trade: Approximately $10.5 billion (2024-25)
  • In FY 2025, India exported goods worth $4.06 billion to Oman.
  • India has offered tariff concessions on 77.79 percent of its tariff lines.
  • This covers approximately 95 percent of imports from Oman to India in terms of value.

American Space Superiority Order

  • U.S. President Donald Trump signed an order to strengthen American dominance in space and expand national security, commercial, and technological capabilities beyond Earth.
  • Under the new policy, the U.S. is prioritizing a human return to the Moon by 2028 through NASA's Artemis program.

National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)

  • With the signature of U.S. President Donald Trump, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2026 has become law.
  • The Act emphasizes strong U.S. relations with India and the Quad to promote a free and open Indo-Pacific region and to address the challenges posed by China.
  • Under the Act, a joint U.S.–India assessment of nuclear liability rules has been called for in accordance with the Civil Nuclear Agreement of 2008.
  • The Act also explicitly recognizes India as a major partner of the United States.

  • According to the Global AI Vibrancy Tool (GVT) Report 2025 released by Stanford University’s Human-Centered AI Institute (HAI), India has reached the third position in the field of Artificial Intelligence, with a score of 21.59.

‘Order of Oman’

Jammu and Kashmir's First Gen Z Post Office

  • Jammu and Kashmir's first Gen Z post office was inaugurated on December 17, 2025, at the AIIMS Vijaypur campus.
  • It was inaugurated by the Executive Director of AIIMS Vijaypur, Prof. Shakti Kumar Gupta, and the Chief Postmaster General of the Jammu and Kashmir Circle, DSVR Murthy.
  • This is the first AIIMS in India where the Gen Z concept has been implemented.

Goa Liberation Day

  • Goa Liberation Day is celebrated annually on December 19th to commemorate the liberation of Goa, Daman, and Diu from Portuguese rule under the Indian Army's 'Operation Vijay' in 1961.

Goa Liberation Day:

  • This year (2025) marks the 64th anniversary.
  • The Indian Armed Forces liberated Goa from 450 years of Portuguese rule in 1961.

Portuguese Rule:

  • The Portuguese captured Goa in 1510 under the leadership of Afonso de Albuquerque.
  • India gained independence from the British in 1947, but the Portuguese refused to leave Goa.
  • Operation Vijay:
  • After diplomatic efforts failed, the Indian government decided on military action.
