Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) for Tribal Children

- According to Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram, 440 Eklavya Model Residential Schools are currently operational across the country to provide quality education to tribal children.
- The Government has approved 728 EMRS in total.
- The Central Government has also launched the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan, with a budget of over ₹80,000 crore, aimed at developing 63,000 tribal villages.
Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS):
- Objective: To provide quality education to Scheduled Tribe (ST) children living in remote areas (Classes VI to XII)

- Facilities: Free education, boarding and lodging, meals, textbooks, uniforms, modern classrooms, laboratories, playgrounds, computer labs, etc.

G-RAM-G Bill, 2025

- The Lok Sabha, on 18 December 2025, passed the “Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rural Employment and Livelihood Mission Bill (VB-G RAM-G Bill, 2025)”.
- This Bill will replace the 20-year-old Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), 2005.
Key Features of the G-RAM-G Bill, 2025:
- Guaranteed employment: Each rural household will be entitled to 125 days of unskilled manual work per financial year, increased from the existing 100 days.
- Seasonal flexibility: To ensure the availability of agricultural labour during peak farming seasons (sowing and harvesting), State Governments may suspend the scheme for up to 60 days in a year.
Funding pattern (Centre–State sharing):
- States: 60 : 40
- North-Eastern and Himalayan States: 90 : 10
- Union Territories without legislatures: 100% funding by the Centre
- Technology integration: Provision for biometric authentication, AI-based fraud detection, and integration of a “Viksit Gram Panchayat Plan” with PM Gati Shakti.

OTT Content Outside the Jurisdiction of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC)

- According to Dr. L. Murugan, Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, OTT (Over-The-Top) content will remain outside the jurisdiction of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
Regulation of OTT content:
- OTT content is regulated under Part III of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC):
- The CBFC is a statutory authority established under the Cinematograph Act, 1952 for the examination and certification of cinematographic films for public exhibition.

Report on the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill, 2025

- The Chairman of the Lok Sabha Select Committee, Baijayant Panda, presented the report on the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill, 2025 in the Lok Sabha on 17 December 2025.
- The Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha in August this year and was subsequently referred to the Select Committee for examination and submission of its report to Parliament.
- The Committee has recommended fixing a three-month time limit for the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) to decide insolvency-related appeals.
Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill, 2025:
- The Bill seeks to amend the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), 2016.
- Group insolvency enables a consolidated resolution process for entities within a corporate group, while the Court-initiated Creditor-Initiated Insolvency Resolution Process (CIIRP) ensures resolution of genuine business failures within 150 days.
- Insolvency: A situation in which an entity is unable to repay its outstanding debts.

- India and Saudi Arabia have signed a bilateral visa exemption agreement in Riyadh.

India–Argentina Agreement in the Agricultural Sector

- India and Argentina have signed agreements in New Delhi to strengthen cooperation in agricultural research and technology.
- A work plan for 2025–27, signed between the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Argentina’s National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA), aims to promote collaboration in areas such as natural resource management, zero tillage, sustainable agronomy, mechanisation, micro-irrigation, and fertigation.
- The agreement also includes provisions for germplasm exchange, expert engagement, and training in advanced agricultural technologies.

First Global Co-Branded Credit Card: Google

- Google has launched its first global co-branded credit card, “Flex by Google Pay,” in India on the RuPay network, with Axis Bank as the issuing partner.

Ponduru Khadi Receives GI Tag

- Ponduru Khadi has recently been granted the Geographical Indication (GI) tag.
- It is a traditional hand-spun and handwoven cotton fabric from Ponduru village in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh, known for its superior quality derived from locally grown hill cotton and unique weaving techniques.

- Features: This Khadi fabric is renowned for its fine texture, made from cotton cleaned with fish bones, spun on a Gandhi charkha (spinning wheel), and featuring a yarn count of 100-120. Mahatma Gandhi associated it with the Swadeshi movement a hundred years ago. In 2020, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman visited the village and assured them of a GI tag.
- Significance: The GI tag ensures the unique identity and intellectual property protection of the product, providing economic benefits to the artisans. It is also linked to the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme.

- Petrol pumps in the national capital Delhi have stopped supplying fuel to vehicles that do not possess a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate.

India’s Defence Production Target

- According to Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, India aims to double its defence production to ₹3 lakh crore by 2029.
- He also stated that defence exports are expected to double from ₹25,000 crore to ₹50,000 crore over the next four years.
Defence Production in India:
- Total Value: India's total defence production has increased to ₹1,50,590 crore in FY 2024-25.
- Growth: This represents a remarkable annual growth of approximately 18% compared to the previous year (₹1.27 lakh crore).
- Long-term surge: Production has seen a massive increase of nearly 90% compared to 2019-20 (₹79,071 crore).
Public vs. Private Sector Contribution:
- Government Companies (DPSUs): They continue to dominate with approximately 77% share of the total production.
- Private Sector: Its share has increased to 23% (from 21% in 2023-24). Private companies have registered an annual growth of 28% in production.
Defence Exports:
- Export Figure: Defence exports reached a record level of ₹23,622 crore in 2024-25.
- Exported Items: India is currently exporting equipment such as bulletproof jackets, Dornier aircraft, BrahMos missiles, and radars to more than 100 countries (including the USA, France, and Armenia).

- Renowned sculptor Ram Vanji Sutar, the designer of the world’s tallest statue, the Statue of Unity, passed away at the age of 100 at his residence in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
