National News

Road Projects in Tripura

  • The Central Government has approved approximately ₹69 crore for 25 road projects in Tripura.

Related Details:

  • Objective: To improve connectivity in areas of 30 particularly vulnerable tribal groups in the state.
  • These projects are being implemented under the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Adivasi Nyay Mahabhiyan.

Increase in Foodgrain Production (English Translation)

  • According to the Central Government, the country has produced 357 million tonnes of foodgrains this year, which is 7.65% higher than the previous year.

Related Facts:

  • The year 2024–25 has recorded the highest-ever crop production in the country.
  • Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated that foodgrain production has increased by 42% compared to 2014–15.
  • Under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), an allocation of over ₹1.28 lakh crore has been made for the period 2021–22 to 2025–26.
  • Between 2004 and 2014, the SDRF budget was only ₹38,000 crore, which has been increased by the Modi Government to ₹1.24 lakh crore.

Health Security to National Security Cess Bill, 2025 Passed

  • Parliament has passed the Health Security to National Security Cess Bill, 2025, which seeks to impose a cess on the production of pan masala and other items notified by the Central Government.

  • Cess: A cess is an additional tax imposed by the government for a specific, predetermined public interest purpose. It is levied over and above existing taxes such as excise duty or income tax.
  • Constitutional Basis: Through the 80th Constitutional Amendment, Article 270 was amended to clearly exclude cesses and surcharges from the divisible pool. Hence, revenue collected from a cess is not shared with the states.
  • Taxable Person: Any person or entity that owns, operates, or controls the machinery or processes used for manufacturing the specified goods will be required to pay the cess.

Increase in Sugarcane Production

  • At the Agri-Business Summit 2025 held in New Delhi, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated that India’s sugarcane production has increased by 44% since 2014.
  • He emphasized the need for an integrated farming model for small farmers with less than one hectare of land, along with value addition, diversification into fisheries and animal husbandry, and stricter regulations on bio-inputs.

First State to Digitize 100% of Electoral Rolls

  • Rajasthan has become the first state in India to achieve 100% digitization of electoral rolls under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) initiative.
  • This digitization ensures that all data and forms related to voter lists are fully available in digital format, making the entire process more transparent, efficient, and faster.

Discovery of the World’s Largest Spider Web and a “Spider Megacity”

  • Scientists have discovered the world’s largest spider web and a spider megacity inside a sulfur cave located on the border of Greece and Albania.

  • Location: Sulfur Cave
  • Size: Approximately 106 square meters (about half the size of a tennis court)
  • Inhabitants: More than 111,000 spiders of the species Tegenaria domestica and Prinerigone vagans
  • Uniqueness: For the first time, two different spider species have been observed living together on such a massive scale, forming a structure made of thousands of interconnected small webs.
  • Environment: The web developed in a sulfur-rich environment due to hydrogen sulfide gas, creating a unique ecosystem.
  • Scientific Significance: Researchers believe it resembles a huge “silk tent city” and offers new insights into the social behavior of spiders, which typically prefer solitary living.

  • The seventh session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) is being held from 8 to 12 December 2025 at the headquarters of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Nairobi, Kenya.

Demise of Dr. Baba Adhav
