Guidelines on GLP-1 Therapy: WHO

- The World Health Organization (WHO) has, for the first time, issued guidelines on GLP-1 therapy for the long-term treatment of obesity, offering conditional recommendations for drugs such as Semaglutide, Tirzepatide and Liraglutide for adults (excluding pregnant women).
- These drugs can reduce body weight by 15–25%, improve metabolic health, and lower heart- and kidney-related risks.
- In September 2025, WHO included GLP-1 therapy in its Essential Medicines List for the management of Type-2 Diabetes.
