‘Sanchar Saathi App’

  • The Central Government has issued a directive to pre-install the ‘Sanchar Saathi’ app on mobile handsets to verify their authenticity.

Pre-installation Directive for ‘Sanchar Saathi’ App:

  • Who is directed: Mobile handset manufacturers and importers
  • What is the directive: All new mobile handsets sold in India must have the ‘Sanchar Saathi’ mobile application pre-installed.
  • Objective: To verify the authenticity of mobile handsets, prevent cyber fraud, and track lost or stolen phones.

‘Sanchar Saathi’ App:

  • Launched by: Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India
  • Availability: 22 languages

18th Global Forum Plenary Meeting

  • The 18th Global Forum Plenary Meeting is being held in New Delhi from 2 to 4 December 2025.

Key Details:

  • Host: The meeting is being hosted by the Global Forum of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in collaboration with the Government of India.
  • Theme: "Tax Transparency: Delivering a Shared Vision through International Cooperation"

India’s Chairmanship of International IDEA

  • India has been invited for the first time to assume the chairmanship of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA).
  • On behalf of India, the Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, will preside over the organization’s chairmanship in Stockholm, Sweden.

International IDEA:

  • Established in 1995, International IDEA is an intergovernmental organization.
  • It currently has 37 member countries, with the United States and Japan as observers.
  • India is a founding member of the organization.

National Emergency Declared in Sri Lanka

  • Cyclone “Dithwah” has caused extensive destruction in Sri Lanka, prompting the Sri Lankan government to declare a national emergency in the country.
  • India has also extended assistance for relief operations under Operation Sagar Bandhu in response to the devastation.

Assam Day

  • Assam Day or Asom Divas is observed every year on 2 December.
  • The day commemorates the arrival of Chaolung Sukapha, the first king of the Ahom Kingdom, whose legacy symbolizes Assam’s rich cultural and historical heritage.
  • It is also known as Sukapha Divas.

Major Achievement in Solar Energy Generation

  • Uttar Pradesh has achieved a capacity of 1 gigawatt in solar power generation from residential rooftops.
  • This milestone was reached by 27 November 2025 under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, with solar rooftops installed in nearly 2.90 lakh households.

  • With this achievement, Uttar Pradesh has become the third state in the country—after Gujarat and Maharashtra—to reach this capacity.
  • A 3 kW system receives a subsidy of ₹1.08 lakh, with a payback period of 20 months.
  • Over 9.7 lakh applications have been received under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana.

Uttarakhand’s First Gen-Z Post Office

  • Uttarakhand’s first Gen-Z Post Office has been inaugurated at the G.B. Pant Institute of Engineering and Technology (GBPIET), Ghurdauri.

  • Gen-Z Post Office: A Gen-Z Post Office is a modern, youth-oriented postal facility specifically designed to attract the younger generation (Generation Z).

Gen-Z Post Offices in India:

  • IIT Delhi: India’s first Gen-Z themed post office was opened at IIT Delhi.
  • University of Delhi: A Gen-Z post office has also been set up on the Delhi University campus.
  • Uttarakhand: The state’s first Gen-Z post office has been launched at Govind Ballabh Pant Engineering College in Paudi Garhwal district.
  • Himachal Pradesh: A Gen-Z post office has been inaugurated in Palampur, Dharamshala district.

Economy and Banking

Total GST Collection: November 2025

  • India’s gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection for November 2025 stood at ₹1,70,276 crore, reflecting a marginal increase of 0.7% compared to ₹1,69,016 crore collected in the same month last year.

  • Gross Collection: ₹1,70,276 crore in November 2025, 0.7% higher than ₹1,69,016 crore in November 2024.
  • Decline in Domestic Collection: Domestic GST collection fell by 2.3%, amounting to ₹1,24,300 crore.
  • Increase in Imports: IGST collection from imports stood at ₹45,976 crore, which is 10.2% higher than last year.
  • Net Revenue: After refunds, net GST revenue increased by 1.3%, reaching ₹1,52,079 crore.
  • Refunds: Total refunds amounted to ₹18,196 crore, which is 4% lower compared to last year.

Key appointments

Vivek Chaturvedi

  • The Central Government has appointed Vivek Chaturvedi, a 1990 batch IRS (Customs & Indirect Taxes) officer, as the Chairman of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).
  • He succeeds former Chairman Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, who retired on 30 November 2025, and Chaturvedi assumed charge on 1 December 2025.

12-Meter Antenna Reflector

  • The joint NASA–ISRO mission NISAR has achieved a major milestone.
  • The mission’s 12-meter diameter antenna reflector has been successfully deployed in Earth’s orbit.
  • This antenna was developed by NASA and was launched in July 2025 aboard the GSLV-F16 rocket.

NISAR (NASA–ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar):

  • Full Name: NASA–ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR)
  • Partnership: A joint mission of NASA and ISRO
  • Launch Year: Expected in the first quarter of 2025
  • Launch Vehicle: ISRO’s GSLV Mk II (Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle)

Launch of NCRRI

  • The National Coral Reef Research Institute (NCRRI) will soon be inaugurated at Chidiyatapu in South Andaman.
  • The institute is being established at a cost of ₹120 crore and will function as the nodal and monitoring agency for research, conservation, and management of coral reefs across India.
Coral Reefs: Coral reefs are underwater rock-like structures formed from the skeletons of tiny marine organisms known as “polyps.”

'Wolf Snake' Discovered

  • Scientists have discovered a new species of wolf snake, scientifically named Lycodon irwini, in the forests of Great Nicobar Island.
  • This species is named in honor of wildlife conservationist Steve Irwin and is brown or bluish-black in color.
  • This snake is extremely rare and may be considered "endangered."
