National News

Export of Fortified Rice to Papua New Guinea

  • The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has facilitated the export of 20 metric tonnes of fortified rice from Chhattisgarh to Papua New Guinea (PNG).
  • Fortified Rice Kernel (FRK): FRK is produced by mixing rice flour with iron, folic acid, and vitamin B12, and then shaping it into rice-like grains. These kernels are blended with regular rice to enhance its nutritional value.
  • Recently, APEDA also facilitated the first export consignment of 12 metric tonnes of Fortified Rice Kernels (FRK) from Chhattisgarh to Costa Rica.

First State to Sign an Agreement with Starlink Satellite

  • Maharashtra has become the first state in India to sign an agreement with Starlink Satellite Communications Private Limited.

EU Approves Emission Reduction Targets

  • The European Union (EU) and its member states have approved the 2035 emission reduction targets as part of the amendment to the European Climate Law.
  • Ahead of COP30, the EU environment ministers also approved a new Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), setting a target to reduce total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 66.25% to 72.5% by 2035, compared to 1990 levels.
  • Additionally, the EU confirmed its 2030 climate target, aiming to reduce CO₂ emissions by 55% by 2030, compared to 2021 levels.

Intermediate Targets (2030):

  • 55% reduction in CO2 emissions for new cars by 2030 (compared to 1990 levels)
  • 50% reduction in CO2 emissions for new vans by 2030 (compared to 1990 levels)

Microsoft to Provide In-Country Data Processing

  • The U.S.-based tech company Microsoft has announced that it will now offer in-country data processing for Microsoft 365 Copilot interactions for customers in 15 countries.

Key Details:

  • The initiative aims to strengthen data localization, ensure user data privacy, and support compliance with regional regulatory requirements.
  • Under this initiative, data related to Microsoft 365 Copilot—including emails, chats, prompts, and other interaction data—will be processed within the geographical boundaries of the selected countries.

MOIL Achieves Best-Ever Performance in October

  • MOIL recorded a production of 1.60 lakh tonnes of manganese ore in October 2025.

  • During the first seven months of FY 2026, the company recorded a total production of 11.04 lakh tonnes.
  • This is 8.5% higher than the corresponding period of the previous year.

Performance of NCDC

  • The National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) has disbursed ₹49,799.06 crore up to October 2025 in the financial year 2025-26.
  • NCDC disbursed ₹95,182.88 crore in 2024-25, which is significantly higher than the disbursement of ₹5,735.51 crore in 2014-15.

  • During the last three years (from FY 2021-22 to 2024-25), NCDC disbursed ₹57.78 crore in loans to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe cooperative societies.
  • ₹2.37 crore was provided to women-led cooperative societies between 2022-2025, particularly for infrastructure-related projects.

IUCN Rated KNP as “Good”

  • The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has given Khangchendzonga National Park (KNP) a “Good” status in its latest global review of Natural World Heritage Sites.
  • It is the only Indian park to receive this rating, while other significant regions such as the Western Ghats and the Sundarbans remain under serious concern.
