Arunank Project – Foundation Day

  • The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) celebrated the 18th Foundation Day of the Arunank Project on 24 October 2025 at Naharlagun, Arunachal Pradesh.
  • This event marks 17 years of the project’s dedicated service in some of India’s most challenging terrains.

Life Cycle – LC 75 and BLC Options

  • The Government of India has approved the extension of investment options such as Life Cycle – LC 75 and Balanced Life Cycle (BLC) for Central Government employees under the National Pension System (NPS) and the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS).
  • These investment choices aim to provide employees with greater flexibility, diversified portfolio management, and higher potential returns by aligning the risk and asset allocation with the individual’s age and retirement goals.

Announcement of Dam Construction on the Kunar River

  • The Taliban administration of Afghanistan announced on 24 October 2025 its plan to begin the construction of a dam on the Kunar River.
  • This decision could pose new challenges for Pakistan, as the Kunar River is a major water source for the country’s northwestern region.

Kunar River:

  • A trans-boundary river flowing through Afghanistan and Pakistan.
  • Origin (Source): From the glaciers of the Hindu Kush mountain range in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
  • Circle: The river originates primarily in Pakistan (Chitral region), then flows through eastern Afghanistan (Kunar and Nangarhar provinces), and then re-enters Pakistan.
  • Tributary: Kabul
  • Final Destination: The Kunar and Kabul rivers flow eastward together and join the Indus River near the city of Attock in Pakistan.

Third Edition of the Berlin Global Dialogue

  • Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal participated in the third edition of the Berlin Global Dialogue in Berlin, Germany.
  • Piyush Goyal is on a visit to Berlin from October 23, 2025 with an aim to boost India-Germany economic relations.

Vice-Chair of COP10 Bureau

  • India has been re-elected as the Vice-Chair of the COP10 Bureau under the International Convention Against Doping in Sport.
  • This significant election took place during the 10th session (COP10) held at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.
  • The session also celebrated the 20th anniversary of this convention, which is the world’s only legally binding international framework against doping in sports.

4th South Asian Athletics Federation Senior Athletics Championship

  • The 4th South Asian Athletics Federation (SAF) Senior Athletics Championship is being held from 24 to 26 October 2025 in Ranchi, Jharkhand.
  • The competition is taking place at the Birsa Munda Athletics Stadium, Ranchi, with participation from around 300 athletes from six South Asian countries.

Asian Youth Games 2025: Bahrain

  • At the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain, Veer Bhadu of India won a bronze medal in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).
  • This is India’s first medal in this event.

“Pay from Mutual Fund” Facility Launched

  • The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has introduced a new facility called “Pay from Mutual Fund” for instant transactions.
  • This facility is primarily designed for investors holding liquid mutual funds.
  • Through this, investors can make direct UPI payments from their liquid mutual fund holdings.

About Unified Payments Interface (UPI):

  • Type: A real-time payment system
  • Developer: National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) – an initiative by RBI and Indian Banks’ Association (IBA)
  • Regulator: Reserve Bank of India (RBI)
  • Pilot Launch: 11 April 2016 by then RBI Governor Dr. Raghuram G. Rajan
  • Underlying Technology: An advanced version of Immediate Payment Service (IMPS)

“UPI HELP” Service Introduced

  • The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has launched an AI-powered assistant service called “UPI HELP” to manage unified mandates and track service-related complaints.

Approval to Connect to National Grid

  • The Government of India has approved the connection of Adani Power Limited’s (APL) 1,600 MW Godda Ultra Super Critical Thermal Power Plant in Jharkhand to the National Grid.
  • Under this approval, the establishment of power lines passing through 56 villages in Godda and Poraiyahat blocks has been permitted.

  • The Godda Power Plant was declared as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in March 2019, and the first and second units of its 1,600 MW capacity became operational in 2023.

ICGS Ajit and ICGS Aparajit Launched

  • The Indian Coast Guard launched two advanced fast patrol vessels, ICGS Ajit and ICGS Aparajit, at Goa Shipyard Limited on October 24, 2025.
  • These are the seventh and eighth ships in a series of eight indigenous Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs).
  • Names of the other ships: ICGS Akshar, ICGS Achal, ICGS Atal, ICGS Ajinkya, ICGS Amolya. This series is known as the "Adamya-class."

  • The vessel is powered by a diesel engine–waterjet propulsion system, providing high speed and superior maneuverability even in shallow waters.
