Foundation Stone Laid for Six-Lane Road Construction in Gujarat

 

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah laid the foundation stone for the construction of a six-lane road of the Shantipura–Khoraj Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) in Sanand, Ahmedabad, on 23 October 2025.

  • Project Length: Approximately 29 kilometers
  • The project includes widening of service roads on both sides, 13 bridges, and the construction of a six-lane elevated bridge.

Amendments to Information Technology Rules 2021

  • The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has proposed several significant amendments to the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.

Key Provisions :

  • Mandatory labeling of AI-generated or synthetic content on online platforms to help users distinguish between real and fake content.
  • Embedding a metadata identifier in such content, which cannot be removed and allows the source to be traced.
  • In videos, the label must be visible on at least 10% of the screen.
  • In audio clips, the label must be clearly audible within the first 10% of the clip.

Amendment to Vegetable Oil Products, Production and Availability Regulation Order, 2011

  • The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has notified significant amendments to the Vegetable Oil Products, Production and Availability Regulation Order, 2011 (VOPPA Order).
  • Under the amendment, vegetable oil producers and sellers will now be required to regularly report production and stock-related data online.

Lassa Fever

  • The outbreak of Lassa fever in Nigeria has emerged as a serious public health challenge.

Key Facts:

  • From January to October 2025, a total of 8,041 suspected cases were reported, including 924 confirmed cases of Lassa fever.
  • 172 deaths have been recorded this year, resulting in a mortality rate of 18.6%.
  • The 21–30 years age group is the most affected by this infection.
  • The disease is caused by the Lassa virus, which spreads through contact with the urine or feces of infected rats.

Rani Chennamma

  • The birth anniversary of Rani Chennamma (Kittur Rani Chennamma) is celebrated every year on 23 October.
  • She was the queen of the Kittur principality in Karnataka and led an armed rebellion against the British East India Company in 1824.
  • Rani Chennamma was one of the first female rulers in India to resist British rule.

Global Forest Resources Assessment (GFRA) Report 2025

  • The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations released the Global Forest Resources Assessment (GFRA) 2025 in Bali.

Key Facts:

  • Currently, approximately 4.14 billion hectares of land worldwide is covered by forests, accounting for about 32% of the Earth’s total land area.
  • In the 1990s, the annual deforestation rate was 10.7 million hectares, which declined to 4.12 million hectares per year during 2015–2025.
  • About half of the world’s forests are located in tropical regions.
  • More than 54% of the world’s forest area is concentrated in just five countries: Russia, Brazil, Canada, the United States, and China.

India’s Position:

  • India improved from 10th to 9th place globally in forest coverage.
