‘Per Drop More Crop’ Scheme

  • The Central Government has introduced new and flexible provisions under the ‘Per Drop More Crop’ scheme to promote efficient water use and enhance farmers’ income.
  • ‘Per Drop More Crop’ is a component of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY).
  • Its main objective is to encourage micro-irrigation technologies such as drip and sprinkler systems to ensure the maximum use of every drop of water.

Key Facts:

  • As per the new guidelines, States and Union Territories can now plan water management activities like farm ponds (diggies) and water harvesting systems according to local needs.
  • Earlier, the funding for such activities was limited to 20% of the total allocation (and 40% for Northeastern and Himalayan States).
  • Now, States are allowed to exceed this limit based on their specific requirements.

Uttarakhand UCC: New Marriage Registration Rules

  • In October 2025, the Uttarakhand government introduced major changes to the marriage registration rules under the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), making the process simpler and more inclusive.

Key Changes:

  • Citizens of Nepalese, Bhutanese, and Tibetan origin residing in the state can now register their marriages without an Aadhaar card, provided they possess any other valid identification such as a citizenship certificate, residence proof, passport, or other recognized ID.
  • The UCC was implemented in Uttarakhand on January 27, 2025.

₹13,430 Crore Development Projects in Andhra Pradesh

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated, laid the foundation stone, and dedicated to the nation several development projects worth around ₹13,430 crore in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh.
  • These projects span across key sectors such as industry, power transmission, roads, railways, defence manufacturing, petroleum, and natural gas.

  • Major Rivers: Godavari and Krishna
  • Geography: The Eastern Ghats separate the coastal plains from the peninsular plateaus.

  • Dance: Kuchipudi, one of India’s eight classical dance forms, originated in Andhra Pradesh.

Jio Payments Bank Limited (JPBL)

  • Jio Payments Bank Limited (JPBL) will launch an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) based tolling system at two toll plazas on National Highway 48 (NH-48), specifically between Gurugram and Jaipur.

Key Facts:

  • Project Name: Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) Tolling System
  • Objective: To ensure uninterrupted vehicle movement at toll plazas and reduce congestion.
  • Technology: The system combines ANPR technology with the existing FASTag system.
  • Toll Plazas: The system will be implemented at Shahjahanpur and Manoharpura.
  • Contract: JPBL won the contract from Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL).

Inauguration of Incubation Center

  • Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated the dhaRti BioNEST Incubation Center at IIT Dharwad (Karnataka).
  • The center has been established in collaboration with the Dharwad Research and Technology Incubator (dhaRti).

Key Facts:

  • The incubator was set up with support from the Finance Minister’s MPLADS fund (₹5.2 crore) and BIRAC (₹5 crore).
  • Objective: To promote biotech startups and innovation.
  • The center operates under the BioNEST program of the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC).

  • Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) has been conferred the prestigious ‘Mini Ratna’ status.

About HSL:

  • Type: Major Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) of India
  • Sector: Shipbuilding and Repair
  • Established: 1941 as a private enterprise under Scindia Steam Navigation Company in Visakhapatnam
  • Nationalization: 1952
  • Fully Government-Owned: Since July 1961
  • Transferred to Ministry of Defence: In 2009, from the Ministry of Shipping
  • Location: Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, on India’s eastern coast

India Elected Co-Chair of UN-GGIM-AP

  • India has been elected as the Co-Chair of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management – Asia-Pacific (UN-GGIM-AP) for the term 2025 to 2028.

About UN-GGIM-AP:

  • Parent Organization: It is one of the five regional committees under the UN Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM).
  • Role: UN-GGIM is the supreme intergovernmental mechanism for global policy-making in geospatial information management.
  • Establishment: Originally established in 1995 as the Permanent Committee on GIS Infrastructure for Asia and the Pacific (PCGIAP), it was renamed UN-GGIM-AP in 2012 after the formation of UN-GGIM.
  • Representation: Represents the national geospatial information agencies of 56 countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
