National News

Agreement between Dattopant Thengadi Board and UP Labour Welfare Board

  • The Dattopant Thengadi National Board for Workers Education and Development (DTNBWED) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Uttar Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (UPBOCWWB) in New Delhi.
  • The objective of this agreement is to implement the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) programme for the skill development and certification of construction workers in Uttar Pradesh.

Role of DTNBWED:

  • An autonomous body under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, DTNBWED works to educate workers and create awareness among them about government schemes, labour rights, and socio-economic issues.

President of Mongolia, Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, on a Visit to India

  • The President of Mongolia, Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, visited India and held bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • His four-day State Visit (13–16 October 2025) aimed to further strengthen the strategic partnership between India and Mongolia.

  • Both leaders celebrated the 10th anniversary of the India–Mongolia Strategic Partnership.
  • 10 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed to enhance cooperation in various fields.

Inauguration of Door-to-Door Cargo and Parcel Services

  • Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated two new door-to-door cargo and parcel services on 14 October 2025 through a virtual mode.
  • These services were launched along with the inauguration of an Integrated Logistics Hub at Sonic.
  • The initiative aims to enhance logistics efficiency and reduce transportation costs.

  • The first door-to-door parcel service has been launched between Mumbai (Bhiwandi Road) and Kolkata (Sankrail).
  • The second service is an assured transit container train between Delhi and Kolkata.

Women Workforce in India

  • India has witnessed a remarkable rise in female workforce participation in recent years.
  • According to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the Female Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) increased from 23% in 2017–18 to around 42% in 2023–24.

Related facts:

  • For women aged 15 years and above, the Worker Population Ratio (WPR) rose from 22% in 2017–18 to 40.3% in 2023–24, while the LFPR increased from 23.3% to 41.7% during the same period.
  • In monthly terms, the female WPR rose from 30.2% in June 2025 and 31.6% in July 2025 to 32.0% in August 2025, while the female LFPR increased from 32.0% in June 2025 and 33.3% in July 2025 to 33.7% in August 2025.

16th Finance Commission

  • The Central Government has extended the tenure of the 16th Finance Commission by one month, until November 30, 2025.
  • The Commission was constituted on December 31, 2023, under the chairmanship of Dr. Arvind Panagariya, former Vice-Chairman of NITI Aayog.
  • It was originally scheduled to submit its report by October 31, 2025, but has now been granted additional time to complete its work.

India Elected to UNHRC for the 7th Time

  • India has been elected unopposed to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for a three-year term (2026–2028) — marking its 7th term on the Council.
  • India was among four candidates (India, Pakistan, Iraq, and Vietnam) contesting for four available seats from the Asia-Pacific group, making the election uncontested. However, India received 177 votes in the UN General Assembly.

Bilateral Meeting on Cooperation in Chemical and Petrochemical Sector

  • The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers held a meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the chemical and petrochemical sector.
  • Both countries agreed to collaborate in areas such as skill development and research & development (R&D) within this sector.

  • The meeting was co-chaired by Nivedita Shukla Verma, Secretary, Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals (India), and Khalil bin Ibrahim bin Salamah, Deputy Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources (Saudi Arabia).
  • In FY 2024–25, bilateral trade between India and Saudi Arabia reached USD 41.88 billion, of which the chemical and petrochemical sector contributed around 10% (USD 4.5 billion).

  • The United States has announced a $20 billion plan to help Argentina overcome its ongoing currency crisis. This financial support aims to stabilize the Argentine economy and restore investor confidence.

India’s Growth Rate Estimate: IMF

  • The International Monetary Fund (IMF), in its latest World Economic Outlook report released in October 2025, has revised India’s growth rate estimates upwards.

  • For FY 2025-26, India’s GDP growth rate estimate has been increased from 6.4% to 6.6%.
  • In the first quarter (April–June) of FY 2025-26, India’s GDP growth rate was 7.8%, the highest in the last five quarters.
  • For the next fiscal year (FY 2026-27), IMF has revised the growth estimate down by 20 basis points to 6.2%.

  • Former Chief Minister of Goa and current Agriculture Minister, Ravi Naik, passed away at the age of 79 due to a heart attack.

Launch of Google AI Hub: Andhra Pradesh

  • On 14 October 2025, Google announced the establishment of India’s largest AI hub and a gigawatt-scale data center in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

Key Facts:

  • The investment is projected to be around $15 billion (approx. ₹1.25 lakh crore) over the next five years.
  • This will be Google’s largest AI hub outside the United States.
  • Partnerships: Google is collaborating with AdaniConex and Airtel for this project.
  • The hub will include a gigawatt-scale data center, an international submarine cable gateway, and large-scale energy infrastructure.

Announcement of National Security Guard (NSG) Establishment in Uttar Pradesh

  • On the 41st Raising Day of NSG, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that the National Security Guard will establish a new hub in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.
  • The Ayodhya hub will be the seventh NSG center after the existing six hubs in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Jammu.
  • The Uttar Pradesh government had allocated 8 acres of land on a 99-year lease in Ayodhya in July 2025 for this hub.
