National News

Launch of Animal Husbandry and Dairy Projects

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated animal husbandry and dairy projects worth ₹947 crore.
  • These initiatives are part of a large and inclusive investment package in agriculture and allied sectors, aimed at strengthening the rural economy and enhancing farmers’ income.

Major New Projects:

  • First IVF Laboratory in Northeast India — established in Guwahati (Assam) under the National Gokul Mission at a cost of ₹28.93 crore.
  • Mehsana Milk Union (Gujarat) — dairy and milk powder unit inaugurated with an investment of over ₹460 crore.
  • Focus on expansion of dairy and cattle feed plants in Indore, Bhilwara, Karimnagar, and Chittoor (Andhra Pradesh).
  • Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF) — inauguration of 10 projects worth ₹303.81 crore.
  • In the fisheries sector, foundation laid for 7 projects and inauguration of 9 projects, with a total cost of over ₹693 crore.

International Purple Festival

  • The third edition of the International Purple Festival was held in Panaji, Goa, from October 9 to 12, 2025. During the event, three key initiatives were launched to enhance accessibility in hearing, reading, and writing for persons with disabilities.
  • These initiatives were inaugurated by Rajesh Aggarwal, Secretary of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

Education: Launch of the Inclusive IELTS Handbook Skill Development: Certification of the ISL Interpretation Course Communication: Launch of training in International Sign Languages (ASL/BSL)

PM GatiShakti National Master Plan

  • The PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (NMP) completed four years on October 13, 2025.
  • It was launched on October 13, 2021, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Key Facts:

  • The PM GatiShakti Portal has integrated 44 Central Ministries and 36 States/Union Territories, with over 1,600 data layers.
  • Under PM GatiShakti, eight National High-Speed Corridors covering a total length of over 2,400 km have been initiated across the country.
  • The initiative aims to ensure seamless and efficient connectivity for the movement of people, goods, and services through multimodal transportation systems.

Five Beaches Receive Blue Flag Certification

  • Five beaches in Maharashtra — Shrivardhan (Raigad), Nagaon (Raigad), Parnaka (Palghar), Guhagar (Ratnagiri), and Ladghar (Ratnagiri) — have been awarded the prestigious International Blue Flag Certification.
  • This certification is granted by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), based in Denmark, to beaches that meet high standards of cleanliness, safety, and environmental sustainability. The evaluation is based on 33 criteria, including water quality, environmental management, and available facilities.

Vindhya and Bundelkhand Region

  • The Uttar Pradesh Government has set a deadline of December 15, 2025, to ensure tap water supply to every household in the Vindhya and Bundelkhand regions.
  • So far, tap water connections have been provided to over 1.98 crore rural households across 85,364 villages in the state.

Jal Jeevan Mission – Har Ghar Nal Yojana:

  • Launched on: August 15, 2019, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi
  • Objective: To provide Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) to every rural household in India by 2024 (the deadline extended for some states)
  • Nodal Ministry: Ministry of Jal Shakti
  • Service Standard: Supply of 55 litres of water per person per day, meeting prescribed quality standards

International News

International Peace Summit to Be Held

  • An International Peace Summit will be held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, to finalize an agreement aimed at ending the war in Gaza.
  • The summit will be co-chaired by U.S. President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
  • More than 20 world leaders are expected to participate, including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA)

  • The Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) between India and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) came into effect on October 1, 2025.
  • This marks India’s first Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with a group of four developed European nations — Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein.
  • The agreement was originally signed on March 10, 2024, in New Delhi.

“My Business QR”

  • HDFC Bank launched “My Business QR” with the aim of digitizing small businesses.
  • It integrates payments, identity, communication, and commerce into a single QR code.

Sonali Sen Gupta

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) appointed Sonali Sen Gupta as Executive Director (ED), effective October 9, 2025.
  • She is the first woman to hold this position.

  • Previously, she served as the Regional Director of the Karnataka Regional Office in Bengaluru.
  • She has represented India in various international organizations such as the G20 and the OECD.
  • Currently, she is serving as the Nominee Director of the RBI on the Board of Indian Overseas Bank (IOB).

India’s Electronics Sector

  • India’s electronics sector is estimated to reach a production value of ₹11.3 lakh crore in 2024–25, which is nearly six times higher than the production value of ₹1.9 lakh crore in 2014–15.
  • During the same period, exports have grown eightfold—from ₹38,000 crore to ₹3.27 lakh crore.

Approval for Deployment of Private Sector Individuals

  • The Central Government has approved the appointment of private sector individuals to the positions of Managing Director (MD) and Executive Director (ED) in the State Bank of India (SBI) and other PSU banks.
  • Under this initiative, private sector candidates can apply for the relevant positions, provided they meet the eligibility criteria.

Key Facts:

  • MD (SBI): Candidates must have at least 21 years of professional experience, including a minimum of 15 years in banking and at least 2 years of experience at the board level of a bank.
  • ED (PSU Banks): Candidates must have at least 18 years of experience, including 12 years in banking, along with 3 years of experience at the highest level below the board.

Military Exercise “AUSTRAHIND 2025”

  • The India–Australia joint military exercise “AUSTRAHIND 2025” is being conducted from 13 to 26 October 2025 at Irwin Barracks, Perth, Western Australia.

Hosting of the Heads of UNTCC Conference

  • The Indian Army will host the Conference of Heads of United Nations Troop Contributing Countries (UNTCC) from 14 to 16 October 2025 in New Delhi.
  • This international conference will bring together senior military officials from 32 countries that play a major role in United Nations peacekeeping operations.

About United Nations Troop Contributing Countries (UNTCC):

  • These are the countries that contribute military and police personnel to UN peacekeeping missions.
  • Personnel from these nations are known as “Blue Helmets.”
  • Since the inception of UN peacekeeping in 1948, India has deployed over 200,000 troops in more than 49 UN peacekeeping missions.
  • India was the first country to deploy an all-women police unit (FPU) in Liberia in 2007.

  • The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction is observed annually on 13 October to raise awareness and promote strategies for reducing the loss of life, livelihoods, and property caused by natural and human-made disasters.
