Inauguration of Agriculture Projects Worth Over ₹42,000 Crore by Prime Minister Modi

Context:
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated, launched, and laid the foundation for multiple projects worth over ₹42,000 crore in agriculture and allied sectors during a special agriculture program in New Delhi.
Key Highlights:
During the program held at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, two major agriculture initiatives costing over ₹35,000 crore – PM Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY) and Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses – were launched.
PM Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY)
- Approved: 16 July 2025
- Five Main Objectives:
- Increase agricultural productivity
- Promote crop diversification and sustainable farming practices
- Enhance post-harvest storage capacity at panchayat and block levels
- Improve irrigation infrastructure for reliable water access
- Ensure greater access to short-term and long-term agricultural credit for farmers
- Focus: Agriculture and allied activities
- Plan Structure: Convergence-based integration of 36 schemes across 11 ministries to directly benefit 1.7 crore farmers
- District-Level Implementation: To be prepared by District Collectors in collaboration with Agricultural Universities and NITI Aayog
- Transparency & Monitoring: Digital dashboard, farmer app, and district ranking system
- Duration & Financial Provision:
- Duration: 6 years (FY 2025–26 to 2030–31)
- Annual Budget: ₹24,000 crore per year
- Targeted Districts & Selection Criteria:
- 100 districts identified based on:
- Low productivity
- Low cropping intensity
- Low credit distribution
- Number of districts per state/UT based on net sown area and share of operational holdings
- Net sown area refers to the total area sown in a given agricultural year, counted once even if multiple crops are grown on the same land during the year
Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses
- Expenditure: ₹11,440 crore
- Duration: 6 years (FY 2025–26 to 2030–31)
- Main Goal: Reduce dependency on pulse imports by boosting domestic production and make the country self-reliant in pulses
- Need: India is the largest producer and consumer of pulses in the world, but domestic production does not meet demand, requiring 15–20% imports

- Out of the total investment of ₹42,000 crore, over ₹5,450 crore projects are dedicated to livestock, fisheries, and food processing sectors

Major Achievements and Farmer Empowerment :
- During the program, the Prime Minister distributed certificates to farmers certified under the National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNC), MAITRI technicians, and Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS)
- Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs): Goal of creating 10,000 FPOs achieved; 1,100 FPOs recorded annual turnover of over ₹1 crore
- Technical Empowerment: Initiatives like ‘Namo Drone Didi’ are helping rural women use modern drone technology for spraying fertilizers and pesticides
