Approval of Four New Multi-Tracking Railway Projects by Indian Railways

Reference:

  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved four railway projects worth ₹24,634 crore.

Project Overview

  • Approved Cost: ₹24,634 crore
  • Coverage Area: 18 districts across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Chhattisgarh
  • Network Expansion: Approximately 894 km added to the existing railway network
  • Timeline for completion of projects: 2030-31

Primary Objectives:

  • To increase the capacity of the railway network
  • To reduce congestion on high-density routes
  • To improve the speed and reliability of passenger and freight transport

Details of the Four Projects

  • Better connectivity for over 8.5 million people across approximately 3,633 villages and 2 aspirational districts
  • Improved passenger and freight transport facilities in rural and urban areas

Transportation and Logistics Impact:

  • Vital route for the transport of coal, containers, cement, fly ash, food grains, and steel
  • Reduction in time and cost for both freight and passenger transport on high-density routes

Improvement in Railway Operational Efficiency:

  • Multi-tracking will increase route capacity

  • Bhusawal–Wardha (314 km): ₹9,197 crore

  • Itarsi–Bhopal–Bina (237 km): ₹4,329 crore
  • Construction Duration: Approximately 5 years for each project
