National News

Viksit Bharat Run 2025

  • The Viksit Bharat Run 2025 was organized in more than 100 countries.
  • This run was held as part of Seva Pakhwada from 17 September to 2 October 2025, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and the Ministry of External Affairs.
  • The run was organized as a community race of 3 to 5 kilometers at prestigious and accessible locations across the world, with the tagline "Run to Serve the Nation."

Discovery of Natural Gas

  • Oil India Limited (OIL) has discovered natural gas in the shallow offshore block AN-OSHP-2018/1 of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
  • The discovery was made in the second exploratory well named Vijaypuram-2, which was drilled under the Open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP).
  • This well is located about 17 kilometers (9.2 nautical miles) off the coast of Andaman, at a water depth of 295 meters.

Two New Ramsar Sites in Bihar

  • Two sites in Bihar have been recognized as Ramsar Sites of international importance.

Gokul Reservoir, Buxar District:

  • It covers an area of about 448 hectares and is an important wetland formed by the flooding of the Ganga River.
  • More than 50 bird species are found here, and it serves as a source of fisheries, irrigation, and farming for the local people.

  • It is a natural oxbow lake spread over about 319 hectares, surrounded by the dense forests of the Udaipur Wildlife Sanctuary.
  • More than 280 plant species and 35 migratory bird species are found here.

Sanctions Reimposed on Iran

  • The United Nations has reimposed the economic and military sanctions on Iran that had been lifted ten years ago.
  • These sanctions were lifted under the 2015 nuclear agreement, but the United Kingdom, France, and Germany have invoked the agreement’s “snapback” mechanism, citing Iran’s continued obstruction and lack of cooperation in nuclear non-proliferation.
  • This step was taken after Iran suspended inspections following airstrikes by Israel and the United States on Iran’s nuclear and military sites in June this year.
