National News

nauguration of "Mahi Banswara Nuclear Power Project"

  • The Prime Minister inaugurated the "Mahi Banswara Nuclear Power Project" in Banswara district of Rajasthan.

Project Name: Mahi Banswara Rajasthan Nuclear Power Project :

  • Location: Banswara, Rajasthan
  • Cost: Approximately ₹42,000 crore
  • Capacity: 4 units, each of 700 MW, total 2800 MW
  • Technology: Indigenous Pressurized Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR)
  • This project is the first entry for NTPC into the nuclear energy sector.
  • Plant Establishment: Near Mahi Dam, close to Nepla village

Launch of National Initiative

  • Union Minister of Rural Development & Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, along with Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Chandrakant Raghunath Patil, launched the National Initiative on Water Security.
  • Under this initiative, the Mahatma Gandhi NREGA (MNREGA) scheme has been made a national priority program for water conservation.

  • In rural blocks facing “extreme water scarcity”, 65% of the MNREGA budget will be spent on water conservation-related works.
  • In semi-critical blocks, 40% of the funds will be allocated.
  • In areas with low water stress, 30% of the funds will be spent on water conservation activities.

‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana’

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana’ in Bihar through video conferencing on 26 September 2025.
  • Under this scheme, the first installment of ₹10,000 was directly transferred to the bank accounts of 75 lakh women of Bihar.

Protests in Ladakh for Statehood and Autonomy

  • After the passage of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, the former state of Jammu and Kashmir was bifurcated into two Union Territories — Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
  • This Act came into effect on 31 October 2019.

Agreement Between Defence Ministry and HAL

  • The Defence Ministry and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) have signed a ₹62,370 crore deal to procure 97 Tejas Mk1A light combat aircraft for the Indian Air Force (IAF).

  • The deal includes 68 single-seater fighter aircraft and 29 twin-seater trainer aircraft, with deliveries starting from 2027-28 and completing over the next six years.
  • This acquisition will replace the ageing MiG-21 aircraft in the Indian Air Force fleet.

  • The Indian Air Force (IAF) and IIT Ropar have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for collaborative development projects to meet the continuity and operational requirements of air power.

New Guidelines on Authentication of Digital Payment Transactions

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued new guidelines on the authentication of digital payment transactions, which will come into effect from 1 April 2026.

Key Points of the New Rules:

  • Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) will be mandatory for all digital payment transactions in India.
  • SMS-OTP is not being removed, but modern technologies like biometrics, tokenization, and risk-based authentication are being promoted.

World’s First Fully AI-Generated Genome

  • Scientists from Stanford University and the ARC Institute have created the world’s first fully AI-generated genome using Artificial Intelligence (AI).
  • This genome belongs to a viral bacterium (Bacteriophage ΦX174), which can infect and kill the E. coli bacteria.
  • The AI model ‘Evo’ was used to construct this genome. It was trained on millions of viral genome datasets to learn DNA patterns and gene sequences.
