National News

NSQ and Spurious Drugs List Released

  • The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has released its regular monitoring report for August 2025, listing drugs of Not of Standard Quality (NSQ) and spurious drugs.

According to the data:

  • 32 drug samples tested by central drug laboratories were found to be of substandard quality (NSQ).
  • 62 drug samples tested by state drug testing laboratories were declared NSQ.
  • 3 samples from Bihar were identified as spurious (fake) drugs.

PM MITRA Park

  • On the occasion of his 75th birthday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the country’s first Prime Minister Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Park in Dhar district, Madhya Pradesh.

‘Namo Toy Bank’ Launch

  • Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla inaugurated the ‘Namo Toy Bank’ at the Paridhan Upahar Kendra in Gumanpura, Rajasthan.
  • The Toy Bank will collect old toys donated by children.
  • These toys will then be distributed to underprivileged and needy children.

India–Mauritius Agreement

  • India and Mauritius signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a satellite tracking and communication station near the US-British military base at Diego Garcia in the Chagos Archipelago.
  • The agreement was signed during the visit of Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam to India.

Chagos Archipelago :

  • Location: In the Indian Ocean, south of the Maldives
  • Sovereignty: Originally part of Mauritius, but separated by Britain in 1965
  • Main Island: Diego Garcia – the largest and most important island
  • Strategic Importance: Hosts a joint UK-US military base, crucial for security and military operations in Asia and Africa

Reconsideration of Reactivating Bagram Airbase

  • The US administration has revised its Afghanistan policy and is now considering the reactivation of the Bagram Airbase.
  • This base was taken over by the Taliban after the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan in 2021.

Nepal’s Largest Insurance Claim in History

  • Following the Gen-Z movement in Nepal, the country has recorded its largest-ever insurance claim, amounting to 21 billion Nepalese Rupees (NPR).

  • According to data from the Pal Insurance Authority, as of 16 September, non-life insurance companies received around 1,984 claims, with a total value of nearly NPR 21 billion.
  • This claim surpasses the insurance claims recorded during the devastating 2015 earthquake, when claims worth approximately NPR 16.5 billion were registered.

Chabahar Port – Recent Developments

  • The United States has announced that it will revoke the waiver granted in 2018 for operations at Iran’s Chabahar Port.
  • This decision is part of America’s “Maximum Pressure” policy, aimed at isolating the Iranian regime.
