National News

Consultation Meeting with MSME Textile Exporters

  • Union Minister of Textiles, Giriraj Singh, chaired a consultation meeting with MSME textile exporters across the textile and apparel value chain.

Textiles Sector of India:

  • Target: To become a domestic market of $250 billion with exports of $100 billion by 2030

Current Contribution:

  • Contribution of Indian textile industry to GDP – around 2%
  • Share in global trade – 4.1%
  • India is the sixth largest textile exporter in the world
  • Exports in April-July 2025: US$ 12.18 billion (3.87% YoY)

Aerial Survey of Flood-Affected Areas in Himachal Pradesh and Punjab

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas in Himachal Pradesh and Punjab.
  • Financial assistance of ₹1,500 crore was announced for flood- and rain-affected areas in Himachal Pradesh and ₹1,600 crore for Punjab, over and above the ₹12,000 crore already allocated.

National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF):

  • Constitution: Under Section 46 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005
  • Objective: To provide for the expenses of emergency relief and rehabilitation in the event of major natural or man-made disasters

India’s Fisheries Production: Financial Year 2024-25

  • India produced 19.5 million tonnes of fish in the financial year 2024-25, making it the second largest fish-producing country in the world.

Inauguration of II and III Phases of Godavari Water Project

  • Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy inaugurated the second and third phases of the Godavari Water Project on 8 September 2025 at Gandipet, near Hyderabad.
  • The total cost of both projects is approximately ₹7,360 crore, and the project will receive 20 TMC of water from the Mallanna Sagar Reservoir.

India’s GDP Growth for FY 2025-26: Fitch Ratings

  • According to Fitch Ratings’ latest Global Economic Outlook, India has demonstrated strong economic performance amid geopolitical uncertainties.
  • Fitch has revised India’s GDP growth forecast for FY 2025-26 from 6.5% to 6.9%.
  • India’s economic growth is expected to be 6.3% in FY 2027, slightly declining to 6.2% in FY 2028.

Increase in India’s Solar Open Access Capacity

  • India added 3.8 GW of solar open access capacity in the first half of 2025 (January-June), a significant increase compared to the previous year.
  • According to Mercom India’s report, this brought the total solar open access capacity in India to 24.6 GW by June 2025.
  • In the second quarter of 2025, Maharashtra led the additions, contributing over 30% of total installations.

Multinational Military Exercise ZAPAD 2025

  • An Indian Army contingent will participate in the multinational military exercise ZAPAD 2025 being held in Russia.
