India’s First Green Hydrogen Producing Port

  • Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated India’s first port-based green hydrogen pilot project at VO Chidambaranar (VOC) Port, Tamil Nadu on 4 September 2025.

“Angikar 2025” Campaign

‘Mpox’ is No Longer a Global Public Health Emergency

  • After a decline in cases and deaths from ‘Mpox’ in Congo and other affected countries, the World Health Organization (WHO) has removed it from the category of a Global Public Health Emergency.
  • In August 2024, the WHO had declared Mpox as a Global Public Health Emergency.

  • Transmission: Contact with infected animals, wounds or bodily fluids

Significant Increase in UPI Transaction Limits

  • The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has significantly increased UPI transaction limits for certain categories of digital payments.
  • For specific categories such as tax payments, insurance premiums, loan EMIs, credit card bill payments, investments, and digital savings, UPI will now allow up to ₹5 lakh per transaction and a total of ₹10 lakh in 24 hours.

  • This limit will apply only to Person-to-Merchant (P2M) transactions, i.e., when paying a business or official entity.
  • Person-to-Person (P2P) transactions will continue to have a daily limit of ₹1 lakh.
  • The new limit will come into effect from 15 September 2025.

Discovery of a New Role for Protein p47

  • Indian scientists have discovered a new and unprecedented role for protein p47, where it acts as a ‘mechanical protector’, helping cells withstand mechanical stress.
  • Protein p47, usually known as a cofactor of p97 protein, has now shown the ability to improve protein refolding and stability during mechanical stress.

India Joins GRN

  • India has joined the Health AI Global Regulatory Network (GRN) to strengthen AI oversight in healthcare services.

  • India has developed rare reference material for advanced anti-doping testing in sports.
  • This achievement is named “Methandienone Long-Term Metabolite (LTM)”.

NITI Aayog Report on the Pulses Sector

  • NITI Aayog has released a report titled “Strategies and Pathways to Accelerate Pulses Development Towards Self-Reliance.”
  • The report covers the development of India’s pulses sector, challenges faced, and comprehensive measures to sustainably increase productivity.

  • India is the largest producer and consumer of pulses in the world.
  • India's share in the total global production of pulses is 28%.
  • Pulse production was only 16.35 million tonnes in 2015-16, which has been increased to 26.06 million tonnes by 2022-23 with an increase of 59.4%. During the same period, import dependence has decreased from 29% to 10.4%.
  • The report has estimated domestic pulse supply to reach 30.59 million tonnes by 2030 and 45.79 million tonnes by 2047

ADR Report

  • According to the latest report by the non-profit organization Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), about 47% of ministers in India (including central and state cabinets) have declared criminal cases against themselves, of which 27% are of a serious nature.
