‘Semicon India 2025’ Conference’

  • The ‘Semicon India 2025’ Conference is being organized from 2–4 September 2025 at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi.

Launch of SEMICON India Programme

  • The Government of India has launched the SEMICON India Programme with an investment of ₹76,000 crore, implemented through the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM).
  • Objective : To bring together industry leaders, policymakers, academia, and startups on a common platform to boost investment and strategic partnerships.
  • The global semiconductor market is projected to reach USD 1 trillion by 2030, with India expected to play a significant role.

Launch of Investor Didi Initiative – Phase II

  • The Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA) has successfully launched Phase II of its flagship financial literacy initiative “Investor Didi” in Hyderabad.
  • Objective : To enhance financial awareness and empower rural communities, especially women.

100% FDI Announcement in Insurance Sector

  • The Government of India has announced 100% Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the insurance sector to boost foreign capital inflow.
  • Earlier, the FDI limit was 74%, which has now been removed, allowing full foreign ownership.

  • 100% FDI will be permitted through the Automatic Route, subject to verification by IRDAI (Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India).
  • India’s insurance sector is projected to grow at an annual rate of 7.1%.

GST Collection – August 2025

  • India’s GST collection in August 2025 rose to ₹1.86 trillion (₹1.86 lakh crore).
  • This marks a growth of about 6.5% compared to August 2024.

  • The ₹1.86 lakh crore includes CGST, SGST, IGST, and Compensation Cess.
  • GST refunds fell by 20%, bringing the net revenue to around ₹1.67 lakh crore, showing a 10.7% YoY increase.

Vrindavani Vastra to be Loaned to Assam

  • The British Museum will loan the “Vrindavani Vastra” to Assam in 2027 for a period of 18 months.
  • It is a 16th-century silk textile, created under the guidance of the great Vaishnavite saint Srimanta Sankardev.
  • The cloth depicts scenes from the life of Lord Krishna.

India’s First Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) Toll System

  • Gujarat has launched the country’s first MLFF toll system.
  • Implemented at Choryasi Toll Plaza on NH-48.

Launch of Bihar State Jeevika Nidhi Credit Cooperative Society Ltd

  • On 2 September 2025, PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the Bihar State Jeevika Nidhi Credit Cooperative Society Ltd. (Jeevika Nidhi) via video conferencing.
  • On this occasion, the PM also transferred ₹105 crore into the society’s bank account.

  • All registered cluster-level federations under Jeevika will be its members.

Rediscovery of Rare Dragonfly Species – Crocothemis erythraea

  • A rare dragonfly species, Crocothemis erythraea, has been rediscovered in the southern Western Ghats.
  • Earlier, it was misidentified as the common Crocothemis erythraea.

  • The species is believed to have arrived in South India during the Ice Age and has survived in montane shola forests and grasslands.
  • This rediscovery highlights the rich biodiversity and ecological significance of the Western Ghats.
  • The finding was published in the International Journal of Odonatology, led by odonatologist Kalesh Sadasivan.

Badminton World Championships 2026

  • India will host the 30th edition of the Badminton World Championships in August 2026.

Formation of ‘Bhairav’ Commando Battalions

  • In 2025, the Indian Army will establish five ‘Bhairav’ Commando Battalions.
  • These units will play a crucial role in swift and high-intensity operations along the borders with China and Pakistan.

  • Each battalion will have around 250 specially trained commandos equipped with modern weapons.
  • Three of these five battalions will be under the Northern Sector Command, one for the 14 Corps in Leh, one for the 15 Corps in Srinagar, and one for the 16 Corps in Nagrota.
  • The fourth unit will be deployed in the deserts of the Western Sector and the fifth in the mountainous terrain of the Eastern Sector.

Yudh Abhyas 2025

  • The 21st edition of the Indo-US joint military exercise ‘Yudh Abhyas 2025’ is being held from 1–14 September 2025 at Fort Wainwright, Alaska (USA).
