Bihar’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR)

The Election Commission of India (ECI), in collaboration with the Bihar Chief Electoral Officer, has initiated a state-wide campaign titled Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls ahead of upcoming state and parliamentary elections.

Objectives of SIR

1. Update and Correct Electoral Rolls

  • Remove deceased or duplicate voters.
  • Correct errors in names, addresses, photographs, and voter details.

2. Enroll New Voters

  • Focus on first-time voters (18–19 age group) and women, transgenders, and SC/ST communities.

3. Ensure Clean and Inclusive Electoral Data

  • Maintain integrity and inclusiveness in voter rolls before elections.

4. Enhance Voter Awareness

  • Conduct awareness drives about Form 6 (new voter), 7 (deletion), 8 (correction), and 6B (Aadhaar linking).

    • Involvement of SHGs, school teachers, anganwadi workers
  • Grievance Redressal
    • Voters can file objections or requests for corrections via NVSP Portal or helpline numbers.

  • Promotes use of voter portal and mobile apps among citizens.

5. Model for Other States

  • If successful, SIR can be replicated across India.
