Updated Income Tax Bill, 2025

  • The Updated Income Tax Bill, 2025 was passed in the Lok Sabha on 11 August 2025.
  • This bill will replace the 63-year-old Income Tax Act, 1961 and has been introduced with the objective of making the tax system simpler, clearer, and more transparent for taxpayers.

National Sports Governance and Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025

  • The Lok Sabha has passed the National Sports Governance Bill, 2025 and the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025.

  • The event is being organised to mark the 132nd anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s historic address at the Parliament of the World’s Religions held in Chicago on 11 September 1893.

Proposal to Implement Two-Language Policy: Karnataka

  • The Karnataka government has proposed to implement a two-language policy in about 90% of the state’s schools, based on the recommendations of the State Education Policy Commission (SEP).
  • Under this policy, Kannada or the mother tongue and English will be the medium of instruction up to Class 5, replacing the current three-language policy of the central government.

BLA and its Wing Majeed Brigade Listed as FTO

  • The United States has officially designated the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and its wing, the Majeed Brigade, as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO).
  • The U.S. State Department has also listed the Majeed Brigade as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) entity under the BLA.

Axiom-4 Crop Seed Study

  • The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) and the Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) have begun a post-flight study on crop seeds sent to the International Space Station (ISS) under the Axiom-4 mission.

BSNL Signs MoUs with Four Global Tech Giants

  • Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with four global technology giants — Ericsson India, Qualcomm Technologies, Cisco Systems, and Nokia Solutions and Networks India.
Under these partnerships, advanced training programmes in 5G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Networking, Cybersecurity and other digital technologies will be conducted at BSNL's flagship training institute, Bharat Ratna Bhim Rao Ambedkar Institute of Telecom Training (BRBRAITT), Jabalpur.

UIDAI Records All-Time High in Face Authentication Transactions

  • The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) recorded an all-time high of 193.6 million transactions in July 2025 using its Aadhaar face authentication technology.
  • This marks a significant jump compared to 57.7 million transactions in July last year and is about 22% higher than in June 2025.

  • The 8th High-Level Meeting (HLM) between the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) was held on 11 August 2025 in New Delhi.
  • The Sri Lankan delegation was led by Rear Admiral YR Serasinghe, Director General of SLCG, while the Indian side was headed by Parmesh Shivmani, Director General of ICG.

39th Monthly Report on CPGRAMS

  • The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) released the monthly report on the Centralized Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS) for July 2025.
  • This is the 39th report published by DARPG on the performance of central ministries/departments.

According to the report:

 

 

  • Central ministries/departments: 1,47,902 complaints redressed
  • New user registrations: 63,073 (of which 10,114 from Uttar Pradesh)
  • States/UTs: 1,22,915 complaints redressed; highest in Uttar Pradesh (29,128)
  • Pending complaints: 1,59,835

 

36th Monthly Report of CPGRAMS

  • The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) released the 36th monthly report of the Centralized Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS) for States and Union Territories for July 2025.

According to the report:

 

 

  • PG cases received by States/UTs: 77,280
  • PG cases resolved: 1,22,915
  • Sevottam Scheme: 899 training courses, 30,090 officers trained
  • Uttar Pradesh received the highest number of complaints at 29,128
  • Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat resolved the highest number of complaints with 30,878 and 5,290 complaints respectively

AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup 2026

  • India’s U-20 women’s football team qualified for the AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup 2026 after 20 years.
  • The team achieved this feat on 10 August 2025 by defeating Myanmar 1-0 in the third and final match of Group D qualifiers held in Yangon, Myanmar.

World Elephant Day

  • World Elephant Day is observed every year on 12 August to raise global awareness about elephant conservation, their protection, and the preservation of their habitats.
  • The idea for World Elephant Day was conceived in 2011 by Canadian filmmakers Patricia Sims, Michael Clark, and the Secretary-General of the Elephant Reintroduction Foundation. It was officially celebrated for the first time on 12 August 2012.
