WorldSkills 2026

  • The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship is conducting the India Skills Competition (ISC) 2025.
  • Winners of the national competition will receive extensive training and mentorship to represent India at the WorldSkills Competition 2026 and other international forums.

  • · In Bihar, the State Cabinet approved the formation of the Bihar State Sanitation Workers Commission.

Thailand, Cambodia agree to ceasefire

  • After five days of deadly fighting, Thailand and Cambodia agreed to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire.
  • The agreement followed crucial talks hosted and mediated by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Putrajaya, Malaysia, which included Thai Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet.

Industrial growth slows to 10-month low

  • · According to National Statistics Office (NSO), data growth in industrial activity slowed to a 10-month low of 1.5% in June 2025, down from 1.9% in May.
  • · This slowdown was driven by the mining sector, which saw its worst performance in 58 months, and also by contractions in the electricity and primary goods sectors.

Procedure to redress chemically contaminated sites

  • The Union Environment Ministry has notified new rules under the Environment Protection Act that lays out a process to address sites that are chemically contaminated.
  • The Environment Protection (Management of Contaminated Sites) Rules, 2025, give a legal structure to the process of contamination.

Initiatives by Ministry of Earth Sciences

  • Earth Sciences Minister Dr Jitendra Singh launched 14 major products and initiatives developed by various institutes under the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
  • These include rainfall monitoring and crop-weather calendars, advanced weather forecasting systems, high-resolution rainfall datasets, updated wave atlases and seabed charts, air quality forecasting systems, marine biodiversity reports, and seismic microzonation studies of four Indian cities.

Pralay missile

  • The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted two consecutive successful flight tests of the Pralay missile which is indigenously developed solid propellant quasi-ballistic missile employing state-of-the-art guidance and navigation to ensure high precision.

SPORTS

Fourth Indian Grandmaster

  • Divya Deshmukh became the first Indian woman to win the FIDE Women’s World Cup title after defeating fellow Indian Koneru Humpy in the final, in Batumi, Georgia.
  • With this achievement, Divya joins Koneru Humpy, Dronavalli Harika, and R Vaishali as the fourth Indian woman to become a Grandmaster. This victory also made her the 88th person overall to reach this milestone.

Tejaswin Shankar

  • India’s Tejaswin Shankar has set a new national decathlon record for the second time, scoring 7,826 points to finish fourth at the Wieslaw Czapiewski Memorial 2025 athletics meet held in Poland.
