Advice to Install “Oil and Sugar Boards” in Offices

  • The Ministry of Health has advised the installation of “Oil and Sugar Boards” at workplaces, government offices, schools, and public institutions.
  • The aim of this initiative is to inform employees and the general public about the oil and sugar content in everyday foods—such as samosas, kachoris, French fries, jalebis, etc.—so they can make more conscious and healthier choices.

Relevant Facts:

  • These boards or digital posters will be displayed in areas like cafeterias, lobbies, and meeting rooms.
  • It is also proposed to print health messages on government stationery such as letterheads, envelopes, notepads, etc.

First-Ever Two Online Sand Art Courses Launched

  • Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched two online sand art courses for the first time.
  • These courses have been developed in collaboration with Padma Shri awardee and world-renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik, and are available for free on the SWAYAM portal.

Key Highlights in the Field of Sand Art:

  • The most prestigious award in the field of sand art is the Fred Darrington Sand Master Award.
  • In 2025, this award was conferred upon Sudarsan Pattnaik, making him the first Indian to receive it.
  • The award was presented during the SandWorld 2025 International Sand Art Festival held in Weymouth, Dorset, England.
  • At the festival, Sudarsan Pattnaik created a 10-feet tall sand sculpture of Lord Ganesha.

Launch of “Stat-a-thon: A Data Journey Towards Viksit Bharat” Grand Challenge

  • The National Statistical Office (NSO), in collaboration with the Innovation Cell of the Ministry of Education (MoE), launched a grand challenge titled “Stat-a-thon: A Data Journey Towards Viksit Bharat” on 15 July 2025.

  • All these products have been indigenously designed and developed in accordance with the Naval Staff Qualitative Requirements (NSQR) to meet the Navy’s strategic needs.

  • Gamma Radiation Aerial Surveillance System (GRASS): Aerial surveillance and radiation mapping
  • Environmental Surveillance Vehicle (ESV): Mobile vehicle for ground radiological and environmental monitoring
  • Vehicle Radiological Contamination Monitoring System (VRCMS): Detection of radioactive contamination in vehicles
  • Underwater Gamma Radiation Monitoring System (UGRMS): Underwater radiation monitoring

NHAI Releases Second Consecutive Sustainability Report for FY 2023–24

  • The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) released its second consecutive Sustainability Report for the financial year 2023–24 on 15 July 2025.

Key Highlights:

  • In FY 2023–24, NHAI utilized over 63.1 million tonnes (631 lakh metric tonnes) of eco-friendly and recycled materials such as fly ash, plastic waste, pond ash, reclaimed bitumen, etc.
  • In major projects—especially in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Delhi—plastic waste was used in road construction.
  • 56 lakh saplings were planted in FY 2023–24.
  • Since 2015, under the Green Highways Policy, a total of 4.69 crore plantations have been completed, and an additional 67 lakh saplings have already been planted in the current financial year.

Hemant Rupani Appointed as CEO of HCCB
