National News

Foundation stone of the first National Cooperative University

  • Union Cooperative and Home Minister Amit Shah on 5 July 2025 laid the foundation stone of India's first national cooperative university 'Tribhuvan Sahkari Vishwavidyalaya' in Anand district of Gujarat.

Legislative provisions related to Tribhuvan Cooperative University and dates of passage in Parliament:

  • Passed in Lok Sabha: 26 March 2025, Passed in Rajya Sabha: 1 April 2025
  • Objective of the Bill: To establish the Institute of Rural Management (IRMA) located at Anand, Gujarat as “Tribhuvan Cooperative University”
  • Related Laws: The cooperative sector in India is regulated by the Cooperative Societies Act, 1912 and the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002
  • Constitution Amendment: The Constitution (97th Amendment) Act, 2011 made it a fundamental right by adding the words “cooperative societies” in Article 19(1)(c)

Appeal to Use ISI-Mark Helmets

  • The Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India, and the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) have urged all two-wheeler riders across the country to use only BIS-certified (ISI-marked) helmets.
  • This appeal aims to enhance road safety and prevent accidents caused by the use of substandard or non-compliant helmets.

  • Wearing of helmets is mandatory for two-wheeler riders under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988
  • Safety is guaranteed only with a quality BIS-certified helmet
  • From January 2026, two BIS-certified helmets will be mandatory for both riders (rider and pillion) with all new two-wheelers

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Brazil as part of the fourth leg of his five-nation tour, where he will participate in the 17th BRICS Summit.

India's Domestic Coal Production

  • According to data compiled by CareEdge Ratings, India’s domestic coal production reached an all-time high of 1,047.6 million tonnes in FY 2024–25, growing at an average annual rate of 10% over the past five years.
  • India is now on track to achieve a record coal production of 1.15 billion tonnes (1,150 million tonnes) in FY 2025–26.

Para Archery Asian Championship 2025

  • Indian para-archers delivered an outstanding performance at the Para Archery Asian Championship 2025, winning two gold medals, taking India’s total medal tally to seven.
