25th Meeting of the Central Zonal Council

  • Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah chaired the 25th meeting of the Central Zonal Council in Varanasi on 24 June 2025.

  • First-time held in Varanasi: The meeting was organized in Varanasi for the first time outside the state capital, reflecting the Central Government’s policy to reduce regional disparity.
  • Cooperative federalism: The meeting reinforced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “cooperative and competitive federalism.”

Note: For the northeastern states, a separate body, the North Eastern Council (NEC), was established in 1971, which covers Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, and Sikkim.
